Hi All,

I have a planned trip to pineville, Kentucky. ( that's where our home base will be for 10 days beginning July 12).

Looking to do some touring around visiting the local and not so local sights around our home base.

Wondering if anyone in the area can suggest some cool tourist stops around the area. Probably within 200 -250 radius should do it.

Looks like some awesome roads in the area too.

I would suggest:

Hwy 715 loop thru The Red River Gorge near Natural Bridge State Park
Cumberland Gap Overlook at Middlesboro Ky
Wheels thru Time Museum in Maggie Valley TN
Cumberland Falls State Park on Hwy 90 between Corbin Ky and Parkers Lake

Good roads:
Hwy 52 between Beattyville and Irvine Ky
Hwy 421 between Shady Valley and Mountain City Tennessee
Hwy 58 from Damascus Va to Volney

Look up the Little Shepherd Trail that goes along the top of Pine Mountain for about 40 miles, most of it graded dirt. Great views!

I rode Little Shepherd Trail a few weeks ago and it is all paved. For hot days it is great, mostly shaded by forest with overlooks that catch some breeze. Not a fast ride, lots of curves (more than the famous Dragon) but it is not an actual highway and I had the entire thing to myself. One car when I got to the end. HIGHLY recommended.

Excellent, going to map these out. Maybe I'll go exploring. Riding with mostly cruisers and a couple of rocket III's. BMW cruisers that is.

We were going to visit the corvette museum until.....well it fell into a sync hole. ??? Wonder if it open somewhere else :)

The Corvette Museum is open, the sinkhole is now part of the attraction.

I just googled Little Shepherd trail and it says only certain sections are paved. Riding from SW to NE, off of 25E, the trail is paved about 10 miles, crosses a blacktop road and it is dirt 15 miles or so, crosses another road and another section of dirt all the way up to 119. It can be confusing to find the entry and exit points but it can be done. I think it is easier from NE to SW to find your way...

You should look at the ADV forum and search KAT. The Kentucky Adventure Trail.

We just did it on large bikes this past week. And unless you purposely get of onto real trails the roads are amazing paved and unpaved.

Got Cumberland Gap http://goo.gl/maps/HWcbN
We've been to Wheels through Time, but who knows, we may go again.

As far a the tourism portion, we have

SGT Alvin C York ST Historic Park
Corvette Museum
Corsair Artison Distillary
Nada Tunnel
SE KY Roller Coaster - http://goo.gl/maps/IYsjt
Kentucky Coal Mine Museum - http://goo.gl/maps/3K3mX

We have some alternate routes as well to visit Makers Mark Distillery and/or Limestone Branch Distillery - http://goo.gl/maps/KP2MZ

I just don't know if we'll have enough time ;D
