So I was looking for a bike to ride around New England this summer and I ended up buying a 2012 on a whim...

I am really interested by the 700 and I had an alert on Cycle Trader but then it also sent me to a new listing this week - 2012 with some farkles, 21000 miles in Virginia City (Chesapeake).

I am actually at the Baltimore airport right now on my way to pick it up and ride back. I think I am the only one around with no luggage, just a helmet and a leather jacket...

:)

Hopefully the bike nice as it seems and I don’t have any problems on the way back! Reading all I can in the meantime to learn about it.

Welcome to the group from about an hour west of BWI.
Do some searching around the site here and you'll see the Gen1 bikes are still well thought of. With those miles it will be due for a check/adjust of the valves and a lot of us replaced the cam chain tensioners. Otherwise solid as a brick outhouse and a lot more fun.

Yes I just found out about the valves and the seller did not do it yet. So I will need to find a reputable shop near-ish Boston to do it.

No rush. A number of owners have let the first service go well into 30,000+ miles.
As far as the tensioner and being a Gen1 just listen on startup for the [normal] cam chain rattle like a box of rocks to last for [abnormal] more than a half minute or so.

Well a quick note through my iphone...I made it to Philadelphia - almost 300 miles. The bike is like brand new, I don’t think I found any fault. I like it way more than I expected. It looks like it never went offroad and was never dropped. That is a lot of value in there for $6000.

Except for the stupid Uber who never showed up and almost made miss my flight, I could not have asked for a better day of riding. Temperature around 70F, super sunny and no wind. Took the bridge/tunnel and it was awesome.

I left Virginia Beach around 3pm and ended up arriving at the hotel late and this is where I think the Tenere shines compared to my previous KTM Adventure. The KTM was fun at the beginning of day when you are well rested but not fun at the end of day when you are getting tired/lost as it is way more temperamental. I would be dead right now and with the Yamaha I feel totally fine. Not sure if this makes sense, maybe I’ll try to explain it more .

Tomorrow I plan to do the remaining 300 miles to my place in Cambridge.
