I have a ram mount clamped to the handle bars of both my super tenere and wr250r. They make an x-grip that comes with a rubber mesh that grabs the corner of the phone. I use oneof my SAE power cables from the battery to run a battery tender 5V USB outlet to charge the phone. On the tenere I run the cable from the windshield bracket to the center of the bars and wrap it there. that way full ock turns don't move the cable much and it's strain relieved.

This thing? https://www.amazon.com/Cradle-Holder-Universal-X-Grip-Cellphone/dp/B0055PH0XA/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?keywords=ram+xgrip+on+the+madstad+bar&qid=1564330422&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmr0

I am assuming I will need all those 3 pieces under "frequently bought together". How do I attach them to the handle bar? When I measured the bar's diameter, I found it is a bit over 9.5 cm ( less than 4 inches ). The ball mounts they sell are 1-1.5 inch at the most.

Is "Ram Mounts" as same as "Ram Mount"? Some reviews mention that they received a knock off Chinese brand.

I bought this package twice from GPS City on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Mounts-RAM-B-149Z-UN7U-Handlebar-U-Bolt-Universal/dp/B006X387ZS/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=ram+mount+motorcycle&qid=1564330826&s=gateway&sr=8-3

The 1" rubberized ball is just the connection between the mount, arms, base. You need to make sure the u-bolt size will fit the bar you want to mount it to. The one I linked above lists 0.5" to 1.25" diameter. The x-grip comes in different sizes for phones, tablets, etc. I have samsung phones, and I can get it to work pretty well. Make sure you glue the rubber feet on the x-grip to the metal arms. I always use the rubber mesh to make sure the phone stays on the x-grip. I ride offroad on my WR250R and have never had the phone dismount.

Thanks. It is hard to see where you exactly attached the u-bolt. Is it on your handle bar?

I have a mount for phone, which I only use for Google maps in any city. The rest of the time I have in my jacket, and with the application "Hey Siri" (it's an Iphone) .. I can call, send text messages and whatsapp and tell me with words the new text messages and new whatsapp with my intercom. But, when I drive with my wife, I deactivate everything:):):)
In the same intercom, I can connect with cable my walkie talkie with ivox, which is also activated by voice and I take it in the jacket

Hmm, this thing looks sweet. Not bulky.
It is also quite robust. I have my QuadLock for over a year now for a iPhone 7 and it is extremely functional and it is a plus that the proprietary phone mount doubles as a phone case.

I just purchased Metal Motorcycle Mount for Phone - by TACKFORM [Enduro Series] as @Banderboy mentioned. Quad Lock was my second choice. I will post some pictures after I install it. It will be nice to move it between my tenere and road glide.

I appreciate everyone for their time and consideration.

I mostly carry iPhone inside tankbag and plugged into the Yamaha cigarette lighter outlet, the actual charger is a Qualcomm charger-voltmeter that I bought on eBay , almost unbelievable but it has never come unplugged not even once, it’s very nice having the voltmeter.
I have a GPS so my phone doesn’t get used a lot but it’s nice to just unzip the tankbag once in awhile to check if anyone has called.
But here is what a another pretty mechanically inclined fellow that I know has to say about phone mounts

Ulanzi st-02s and a couple threaded ram balls and you’re in business. I’ve used most of the expensive options on the market and have rejected them all for one reason or another, (mostly because in the right (or wrong) circumstances, they’ve proven awkward, ineffective, or have cost me a bunch of bucks in replaced phones after they’d been dropped.). RAM X-mount was the worst for me. Spring loaded or friction held mounts have a habit of letting loose with a hard pothole or bridge approach jolt. 2 hands to secure the phone with those stupid rubber bands is ridiculous. A mount that lets your phone wiggle around until it pushes buttons and changes your volumes or shuts your phone off right when you need it is distracting and a safety issue.

Ulanzi WORKS. ChecK eBay. Under $20 plus the RAM stuff to mount it.

Others will be along to disagree shortly... ”
