Hey All,

One of my other passions is Triathlon (swim, bike, and run competitions). I belong to a triathlon club that is part of my local YMCA. We are organizing a Triathlon event and I'm in dire need of folks with motorcycles to help with the event.

Here are the details:

Steelman French Creek Triathlon
Sunday, June 14th at French Creek State Park, Elverson, PA

French Creek State Park:

This triathlon was originally started by a member of the triathlon club I belong to to benefit one of our members that had developed a severe case of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. At some point after the planning began, a series of events occurred such that this member no longer needed any of the financial benefit we were looking to raise, so instead this event is now going to benefit the Spring Valley YMCA, which is a non-profit organization and the host training facility that our club uses.

I was appointed as the lead person in organizing the motorcycle marshals required for the race. If you're not familiar with what a marshal does, it's pretty simple:

1. Ride along the bike course during the triathlon monitoring for safety
2. Issue penalties when riders disobey the rules of biking (drafting, improper passing, etc)

For this particular race, which is low-key, we are only focusing on the first item - safety. Each marshal will have a radio and a cell phone and will patrol a particular portion of the course. If during the patrol they come across somebody who is in duress, they will phone or call back to the main control center for the race and report the incident (safety - somebody is hurt, or mechanical - bike is disabled) and help will be sent. It is not expected that the marshals be certified in any life saving techniques or other medical assistance, there will be dedicated EMT support available for that.

As far as the schedule for race day, here is a rough breakdown:

~6:15AM: Arrive at French Creek State Park
~7:00AM: Swim wave starts
~7:15AM: First athlete starts on the bike leg, I will lead them out on the course.
~7:15AM - ~9:00AM athletes and marshals are on the bike course
~9:00AM - last athlete should be finishing up the bike. The marshals are done and can partake in the athlete food and can leave or hang out for as long as they like while the rest of the race finishes up

That's pretty much it. If you or anybody you know might be interested in helping out please drop me an email (venture@yamahasupertenere.com) or PM me here on the forum and I'll be happy to answer any questions or discuss further.

Chris

You're never too old, they have short distances and an age group for everybody! Heck, if you're the only one in your age group all you have to do is finish and you get 1st place! :D

I work the Triathlons for the OKC Tri association. I carry the officials during the bike portion. Wish I was up there to help you out. I have been doing these going into my 6th season this year.

I wish you were closer!

I'm only in my second year myself, but what an addicting and fun way to stay in shape. Great community of athletes, too.

Did one of them look like this?
::008:: The other was a White as I recall. Talking to a couple at the Arch, they had come from New Zealand for the race, do the Regulators do the same, go from race to race?

Good eye Don. The other one was white and also a member here. Only 2 in a sea of BMW's this year.

There are 30-40 motors at an event as large at the CA race. They come from all over the world, depending on the position and skill set required. Lots of LEO motors and folks who have worked their way through the ranks, starting at local bicycle races. I've worked all over the US and Canada; if I could only figure out how to make a living doing it .......
