Which Pelican cases or combinations there of are any of you guys using?
I am thinking of mounting a pair on my Wolfman racks, I can get the adaptors.
Are you using the same case both sides, or a slimmer case on the exhaust side?
Any thoughts?

Cheers

I have the regular cases that Caribou sells (I believe 1530) on the Hepco Becker racks - same size on both sides and I think it looks just fine and you can barely make out any asymetry.
What I really like about them is the combination of good price, absolute waterproofness and sturdiness. I laid my bike down once on the cases and they only got a little rash and protected the bike. Yes - top loading could sometimes be of advantage, though not if you have a lot of stuff on top of your bags.

Might email the guy, super nice. See if he will sell you the Hardware only, assuming the shipping does not kill you (smaller lighter) then you could procure your own pelican cases. I see them on ebay for a reasonable price. Not sure how Aussy ebay selection will work for you.

Good luck

They do sell parts to retro-fit other cases....

They look good.... but what may put me off is the fact that you will need a couple of padlocks on each case to secure the lid.....The Pelican cases do not come with locks ( I had a 1440 as a top case some time ago, and had to use padlocks to stop stuff being nicked from it)

I've already got Hepco and becker quick release frames, and I think I'm going for a set of ARD cases , which will work with the frames, and come with fitted locks

On My gs1200 I had pelican 1550s which seemed perfect for side cases. Used the mount and quick release for them from twisted throttle.

Went to caribou cases on the Tenere. Nice integration and love the cases. My GS went down several times on the pelicans and they always took it like champs 8)...no damage to bike and almost nothing visible on cases.

My caribou cases came with locks but I throw an extra padlock on them anyways so I guess the padlock portion never bugged me like it does Bryn..But I am a paranoid in that sense.. ???

You might also want to consider...
... SBK cases http://www.skbcases.com/ - we have them at work and they look very good, less expensive, great latches.
... Seahorse cases http://www.seahorsecases.com/ - a friend uses these on his KLR. Lower price point and use the same measurements (I think) as Pelican.
... Somewhere on the internet the Pelican cases are being sold cheaply. I will have to check with my boss tomorrow where. He bought a bunch of them this week.

Roge I'm running Pelican copies from Jaycar. Supercheap Auto also have their own range on the shelf these days. Take a run down to Sandgate as the two shops are side by side.

The Supercheap ones have deeper bodies and shallower lids. Drilled and sealed and mounted to SW-Motech racks, but any racks would do. I also have one mounted on top of my auxiliary fuel cell.

Here's my setup. They aren't Pelicans, actually; they are equipment cases from MCM Electronics. About a third the price of Pelicans, but I've had them on two different bikes now for about 32,000 miles, and have no complaints. They are three of the large cases (I use three when I tour, and two large and one small for most other times). The rear luggage rack and topcase support system are homemade. The support system transfers some of the load of the top luggage rack down to the Happy Trail racks.

I'm looking for a small pelican case that I can use to carry tools and food for day rides. I have an SW Motech Rack and want to use that in conjunction with a smaller Pelican case.

Check out the Peli 1450... I had one a while back on an 1100 GS..made a great top case ..not too big, perfect for day trips ...

I had a Touratech locking base plate I bolted to it.....so I could remove it with a key...I was quite pleased with the result...looked pretty good ::008::

If my Pelican cases ever wear out (fat chance), I'd go for those Seahorses!

How often does your bike lay on your boxes???

That's the good thing about these cases (whatever brand you choose), they come in all sorts of sizes.

Here's a smaller one on my little Ninja 300. With a few hooks riveted on I can even carry a jerry can or other stuff bungee netted on top.

This is a Pelican 1170 mounted on a Happy-Trail rack. 'Not sure how different that is from a Motech but it is likely similar. 'Nice, small, watertight & lockable box:

Pro's --- The Pelicans are strong, hinges, latches and overall construction. They come in many, many sizes. You'll surely find one that fits your needs. Lockable, waterproof.

Con's --- For side cases, the side-load vs. top load style is a deal breaker, I just hate it. For a top case, this is not a problem. Then look at the outer dimension vs. the inside dimension. There's a big difference due to the handle and all the moulded plastic shrouds around the latches. This really cuts down on the internal storage capacity.
