I'm picking up a thread I started back in may: Re: 2014+ Stock ST Map (No Mods Map) for PCFC 22041.

Here: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=22184.msg314518#msg314518

Anyway, over the past couple months, I have been attempting to sort out a "compromise PCFC map that does mainly two things:
1) Provides a smooth (OK smoother than OEM) off-idle throttle response, and
2) provides a reasonable fuel efficiency at the settings that meet goal #1.

This proved to be difficult to achieve. PCFC Map Settings at "RPM .vs Throttle Percent" that would provide a buttery smooth off-idle throttle response, usually gave what I would characterize as horrible MPG mileage: Low 30's.

Backing off those setting to "lean out" the upper left quadrant of the map settings (ie: Low PRM and Low % throttle combinations), but not use setting of Zero (ie: 0 = No Assist from the PCFC, so you get OEM fuelling at that map setting). Leaning out those would give me better MPG mileage (Mid-40's to Low 50's), but I would be back to "square one" with the bucking bronc off-idle conditions.

I encounter dirt riding every time I leave the property, so this "snatchy" throttle acts as "whisky throttle" every time I go through my dirt wash. It annoys me.

What I come to understand about the PCFC, and likely about the PC-V as well (since it's a fuel controller, not fuel / air), is what I've known about engineering any electronic system over decades: Everything is a compromise.

With that thought, what is attached in my latest iteration of a compromise ECU map for a stock 2014+ ST / S10, no air box mods, no silencer mods. It should provide a smoother off-idle throttle than the super-lean mapping in a stock ECU, but also should not send your mileage into the crapper.

Enjoy.

(Note: The file type needs to be re-named from *.pvm to a .dvm, to pass the website attachment rules. A *.dvm file is suitable for loading via the PC software).

There is some good knowledge passed on in some of the ancient power commander threads on this forum regarding the first two columns of the fuel trim map. This applies regardless as to PCFC or PCV/Autotune. The first two columns of the fuel trim map represent closed loop areas inside the Stock ECU and mucking with them causes weird stuff to happen. Snatchy throttle is difficult, if not impossible to tune out without removing the closed loop area from the factory ECU. To my knowledge (from Jaxon and the bottom of the first post in this thread: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=2813.0) the only way to get rid of the closed loop area in the factory ecu is to have it flashed by ECU Unleashed. This is how I was able to get rid of throttle surging (snatchy throttle) with arrow headers. The closed loop area causes problems with the transition in throttle percentage.

If you're looking for the most inexpensive way to get rid of snatchy throttle issues on a stock S10 (And I mean - buttery smooth), Anthonys flash is the way to go. I can't answer as to where that puts AFR, as I didn't add the PCV/Autotune to my bike until after I put the Arrow header on and had ECU Unleashed re-flash the ECU.

I tried to load your map in the pcv software, but I got an error opening map file. I guess it doesn't work with the PCV software.

Hmmm. OK, I did know that PCFC instructions say to not change the (greyed-out?) area, which includes the 1st two columns.

Now I know why, OK thanks. I wondered what would occur if I did change them. When you say "weird stuff", I will go read the thread you've pointed at, to find out what that means.

I also wondered if I should perform the TB sync with these map corrections in place (since, I have changed those low mapping positions). I have decided, yes, I should do TB sync with them in place, if I decide to leave the low RPM / Low Throttle % mappings, in place.

So far, no weird stuff has occurred, but it's "one more thing" to consider, if it does.

I do not have access to the CO settings change / maintenance pages (I have a USA cycle), so I went this direction.

Oh Well, it's no wonder the maps I've been posting do not seem to be downloaded much.

I think that, given what I know now (ECU re-flash available via ECU Unleashed, on a per-power-mod change basis, and... PC-V available on a Dyno setup per-snapshot basis), I would still go this route, even tho for me, it has been "fiddley".

I've got what I wanted, and the cycle seems better, and no worse, for it.

Edit:

I really need to think about this, now. I have the PCFC instructions, and a member flagging past history, about changing the closed loop area of these maps.

Maybe I should back that out, huh?

Jeez, now I have also consider throwing more money at this cycle. Just when I thought I was honing in on the love...
