I wanted to carry a little extra fuel on the bike, so I purchased Rotopax 1 gallon fuel cell. Now I just needed a way to carry it. Since I seldom carry a passenger, I wanted to mount the cell in place of the rear seat. I already had a Givi trunk mounted at the luggage rack area. I looked into an aluminum plate to bolt in place of the seat. I found that there were two different plates available, one for the seat area, and one for the luggage rack area. I was looking for one plate to cover the whole area, instead of two. I don’t trust the Givi trunk for off-road use, and planned on strapping a soft-bag over the fuel cell and rearward for some rides.

I was turned on to Ernie at Eazcycle, ernie@eazcycle.com who had made this type of plate before. I got a protype plate from Ernie and then I mounted the Rotopax mount on the plate. I then mounted the plate on the bike. Lastly I mounted the Givi mount at the back of the plate. The Givi mount is about an inch higher now, because it is mounted on top of the plate.

The plate works very well at holding the fuel cell, and the Givi mount. I have ridden about 1500 miles since mounting the plate. I have ridden off-road maybe 20-30 miles thus far. The fuel cell does not move at all while riding, loaded or empty. I am very happy with the plate.

Nice work. That is exactlt what I am trying to do. Did you take off the stock Yamaha pieces and set your new on to bolt into the same holes?

This plate bolts on top of the stock plastic plate under the passenger seat. It sits on top of the four rubber feet. It bolts to the two passenger seat holes at the front, and four luggage bracket bolts at the rear.
