Has anyone considered pillion floorboards similar to the ones Knifemaker used to do over on the FJR forum...the small aluminum plate ones that replace the rubber insert on the passenger pegs and still fold up?

Spkldoe is looking for a little more room for comfort and added height when she mounts up.

Am I nutz (yes, I know it may be rhetorical)?

Does anybod know where to get a set of good passenger pegs for the Tenere? The stock ones pretty much suck.

I think Touratech makes some for the BMW, but I've never seen any for the Tenere.

I know I remember a guy a good while back that added some rear pegs that were lower and wider but I will be darn if I can find it with a search. It may have been on ADV Rider? :-[

What are you looking for? IOW, how would you improve the pegs? Wider, lower, longer, more aggressive?

There are lots of pegs out there. On the high end are These

On the lower end of adjustable are HERE which will require some shimming, most likely.

I'm looking for a more dirt oriented set of pegs for my wife, not for me. The ones from Pure Performance Cycles would be great if they were for the pillion position, but I think they are for the rider position. If the rider's pegs would fit, I'd just buy another set and put them on the rear, but I don't think that will work.

Well, since I have my front pegs off at the moment, I just went and pulled off a pillion peg to compare them. The pillion peg is the standard Yamaha style with a spring, ball and shim stop with notches and holes for the ball to snap into, (they look identical to my old FJR pegs, which were the same for all four). The peg itself is .778 wide, the slot is .860 wide and the front peg is .936 wide. So you would need to sand/file/machine the front pegs down .076", (less than a tenth of an inch), for them to fit into the slot. Easy enough to do with a good file and a vice to hold the peg in. Or just a couple of hits on the belt sander.

Since the front peg has a round standoff for the spring, it appears that you could do most/all of this on that side w/o issue and still have room for the spring. The angles line up fine for the front pegs being used on the rear, near as I can tell w/o actually grinding the pegs down myself. The shape of the part that fits into the slot is essentially the same, the pin hole is the same size diameter too.

Parts needed: P/N Qty retail Part Shark price
22 L FOOTREST 23P-27451-00-00 1 $28.68 $19.50
26 R FOOTREST 23P-27461-00-00 1 $28.68 $19.50
27 COVER,FOOTREST 23P-27413-00-00 2 $9.32 $6.48
28 R SPRING, TORSION 90508-20051-00 1 $1.05 $1.05
29 L SPRING, TORSION 90508-20041-00 1 $1.05 $1.05

So a bit over $50 with shipping from PartShark

The cotter pins can be re-used a few times, but it would be cheap to pick up some new ones at your local hardware store. They are about $1 each if ordered as yamaha parts.

Hope that helps. And that's cheaper than most, (maybe all), of the aftermarket alternatives. I've just spent way too much time looking for adjustable front pegs to move them forward for my wife to use. Ended up buying some off eBay for $60 out of Hong Kong that have crappy pegs, (think sport bike style round knurled aluminum), but will give us an idea of if that makes enough of a difference for her before spending the big $$ for something like the Gilles pegs from Pure Performance.

My wife has 36" long legs & gets quite cramped & restless on most bikes. When we had our Concours 14 she asked me if I could put cruiser styled floorboards on the C14. We test rode an HD Ultra-Classic once & the only thing that appealed to her about the bike were the floorboards. So I bought some online from Kuryakyn & with a little modification they were on the Concours.

After we traded the Concours for the S-10 I was kinda hoping the floorboards would be forgotten but no such luck. So after owning the S-10 for a year & with a few hints from her I decided it had to be done.

I had to grind some of the metal off of the extenions to get them in the S-10 footpeg holders for some reason. But after several hours invested they worked. I had said wife sit on the backseat & adjusted the tilt to her liking. For now they're bolted solid but I'll figure a way to make them quick detach soon so I can remove them while riding solo. I took the bike for an hour long ride today with lots of stops & starts & the floorboards were never a hinderance.

Here's few pictures of the project & yes, I could have put smaller one's on but these the one's she wanted.

Great mod...i put these floorboards on with the same "dropdown adapter" as you. mine don't fold up all the way like yours, though.

She's a tall thin one (5'8") but buying riding clothes for her has been a challenge though!

We ended up buying men's medium for length but the rest of the fit's not the greatest.

When I started dating her almost 6 years ago I told her "I fly airplanes & ride motorcycles & I"ll never give either up".

Thank goodness when she was a teen on Long Island in the 80's she rode all over the East Coast behind her Dad' Goldwing!

She loves to ride. Ypu, I lucked out!
