Hi All,

I have to be in NYC (in SOHO) a few days a week for a couple of months for work. I'd like to ride there instead of train/bus. Any advice of where to park? Is street parking ok in SoHo? If so Should I get extra lock like a chian lock, or disk lock? Or using a bike cover should be enough to blend in?
...last time I was there with my older bike I recall most parking garages would not take bikes at all. At least not in lower Manhattan.

thx!

Look up the smoothparking app or website to check for parking regulations around that area. Around there I think you should be able to find street parking. Get a disc lock at minimum. Cover is also good. The S10 doesn't seem to be as big of a theft target around ny compared to sport bikes or smaller dual sports, but there is always the chance. My cbr was stolen outside of my apartment in Queens last year and it was parked right next to my S10.

Nyc is the most obnoxious place to own and ride a motorcycle in this country. Between motorcycle only checkpoints, overzealous NYPD, and idiot drivers parking by feel, it's a terrible place to ride. Despite all of that, I still preferred it over public transportation. I'm no longer living there as of one month ago, but I wish you luck.

Use a cover and lock it to something. I know from the Baltimore thieves that they'll just tip it into the back of a truck and dump it for a couple of days to see if it has a LowJack tracker.

thanks for the info guys. I got a kryptonite disc lock, so I'll bring that and my cover in case parking garages don't take me. I read that icon parking says they take bikes, but when you go to an actual locations the operators don't want to deal with you.

I've ask the hotel management to help me find a place, since coming from them (long term customers) will be harder for them to turn me away. We'll see!

just an update on this topic: I've been bringing my S10 to NYC a lot. I have had no issues with street parking (mostly staying around Soho). At night I've put on a cover and a Kriptonite lock just in case. And to move around the city is definitely the way to go.
