I'm probably ::002::! But as a new S10 owner I was wondering if there is a thread with pics of all the different pannier options. And maybe specs such as weight. Do you have different sized panniers for the left and right? Should we go stock Yamaha panniers? How about the different manufacturers? Are Jesse the way to go? Givi? Pics of all the different setups would be SUPER!

Yamaha boxes are ok.... lots of choices out there , for me I chose toura tech.... if I ever decide on a different bike the boxes will transfer to any toura tech rack for the new bike, what ever it might be . ( if toura tech makes a rack for my choice ) I could go ktm or bmw and toura tech makes a rack for these bikes and a easy move.... do your research and make the choice that makes you smile..... it could be the jessies....

I won't sing the praise of my Pelican cases (ugly, cheap, watertight and indestructible) but I will tell you that the Hepco Becker racks they are mounted on are remarkably symmetrical. So if you don't want different size cases or have them stick out differently, I recommend the HB racks (and my Carribou cases too)

I don't have any experience with panniers other than the Yamaha ones. I am on my second set. (changed colors with the 3rd XT).

I have read the complaints, but I have not had any issues. laid it down several times. and they stated put. got a little lose after some hits.

They do need Loctite on tumbler.

But otherwise they have been great. never gotten wet, even with high speed in the rain. always used all 3 and not had turbulence issue either.

Dirt Baggs in Calgary is where I picked up mine. Bags only, you need to source your own racks and mounting system.
9" wide, 37L, Both sides, mounted to SW Motech racks. He sells them Powercoated Black, grey or you can go bare Aluminum like I did.
Lots of nice boxes available out there. I like to the look of a basic box.

I went for Touratech, the boxes are great but it was the racks that did it for me, great crash protection for the rear of the bike.

After a lot of reading/research I ended up getting Holan Nomada Pro.
I picked the 38/31L combo as they are narrower over all than even the OEM Yamaha panniers even though they have slightly larger capacity. A slim profile is important to me as I practice lane splitting.
The panniers is somewhat narrower (88 cm) than the handlebars.
Weight:
Right pannier: 5.12 kg. Left pannier: 7.78 kg. Rack: 3.20 kg.
Total: 13.10 kg/28.9 lbs.

Have been using them for 2 years/several trips and very happy with them.
Very sturdy and 100% water proof.

Last year I had to replace the left pannier after is took a hit from an oncoming car - you can read the story here: http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/a-spring-ride-across-europe-on-a-s10-in-search-of-warmer-weather-and-good-company.1219221/page-2#post-32154750
The hit deformed the pannier but it stayed attached to the rack - and impressively enough the lid remained functional (but not very water proof).

People have made just about every pannier fit this bike and your choice will largely come to a matter of flavor and cost. So many that threads like this have their own sub-forum for luggage. The biggest issue is that some of the top loaders interfere with topboxes.

My suggestion is to use the search function.

I am going the Pelican 1520 route (about 25L ea). I do not have my racks installed so no pics just yet-will update. I don't travel a lot and wanted to stay narrow and the Pelicans are only about 7 inches deep. With a Shad SH-48 top case, I will still end up with 98L total.

I don't have a pic that I can easily post up, but I went with wolfman expedition soft bags on the side with a pelican top case. I think it looks awesome, not heavy, not going to break my leg, waterproof, big enough and makes me not bring along a bunch of crap I don't need. I mostly ride solo, so that helps as well.

Bumot 40/36L:

I definitely think this is the best looking set-ups for panniers!
Externally, symmetrical and a balanced look.
Most other set-ups just look odd. O:)
But I don't like the look of square boxes anyway, so......

Thank You everyone!! I REALLY appreciate the input. I had never even heard of Bumot panniers. I'll take some more time this weekend and research costs and weights, etc., etc. Especially thanks to those who posted pictures! I have Hepco and Becker boxes on my KLR and the rack seems to "wobble". The rack is a quick release with the cam type mounting. The boxes also stand way off from the bike and looks a little funny. I'm looking hard at the Jesse boxes although they seem to be heavy. I think @ 16 & 18 lbs for the different sizes. Thanks again everyone!

I almost went with the Bumots, and may still someday, but I got a nice used set of the OEM panniers, racks and interior soft luggage from a forum member for a great price and I could not be happier with them. Suit my needs perfectly. People sell them all the time for about 1/2 what they are new.

Don’t let the OEM pannier locks scare you off - you just push down on the lid before you turn the key, That simple. And they are waterprooof.
