Overfilled The Oil

Hey all, just changed the oil on my 17 & wasn’t paying attention overshot the window. It’s basically right at the top, no sunlight though.
I want to get it back down but don’t want to blow another $40+ on Amsoil. Can I let a little leak out of one of the drain plugs, or do I have to empty it all out and refill?

Yours Truly,
The Lube Stuffer

I wouldn't worry about it. I run mine at that level all the time. You certainly could drain a little out by cracking one of the drain plugs loose and then rechecking the level.

If it's just over the top line, window covered. . . . magic is right. . . . no worries. My '17 ran the last 6,300 mile that way. 'Cuz, it goes from "not enough". . . . to "well, shit, that's too much" with just a few ounces. If you just have to drain some out. . . . use the front bolt. It only lets a cup-ish out. If you pull the back plug, you're going to lose the rest.

Personally I wouldn’t worry about it unless you put an extra half quart or more in there. I run mine at the very top all the time. It’s a habit I got into with my KLR650.

If I do decide to crack the front drain plug, should it do it with the engine warm or cold? Figure with cold the oil won’t drain as a quick making it easier to control the flow.
Thanks guys, I feel better since I’ve been riding it some since the change.

If you mention how much oil you put in ... and if you changed the oil filter or not, and if you drained complety.... it will be easier to know if it was overfilled. Adding oil, and looking at the sight glass to see how much to fill, is not the correct way to do it.
the difference between the maximum mark of the sight glass ... and the top of the sight glass ... I don't think it will reach 100cm3 ..... that is not overfilling

I haven't overfilled the Tenere but I have on other bikes. If it is just a little you want to take out I would just undo the oil filter and drain that otherwise a slow turn of the plug should do it.

Dude just pull the rear plug for like 1-2 seconds at a time until the level is right. Collect what you drain in a clean disposable cup so you can measure it and in case you drain a little too much.

I get a fuel transfer hand pump or a all liquids pump. It will pull a good 1/5 quart in one pump. I've used it for just coolant and oil just make sure you clean it out. I think there $15 on Amazon. You stick in your fill hole.

This all sounds very annal to me, perhaps if you are constipated, then yes place the device mentioned in your drain hole.
The differences between the lower level and the higher levels in the sight glass are very minimal, approximately 150 - 200 millilitres. Or approximately 5 ounces if you prefer.
I very recently changed my oil and oil filter in my 2028 ES and deliberately put under 4 litres of oil. I started the bike and ran it for a few minutes to check for leaks, fortunately no leaks.
Shut down and wait ten minutes, roll the bike level to see what the oil level is. Nothing in the sight glass.
I then added a small amount of oil, approximately 150 ml or 4 - 5 ounces of oil and the sight glass was up to the upper fill line.
