2013 model. I have ran the tank empty and only took 5.1 gallons to fill up. Can not get to use the total 6 gallons in the tank, doe anyone else have this problem?

Im only guessing here but theres prolly alot of water/rust or whatever at that very bottom that you dont want sucked into and blocking the fuel pump, so the pump is mounted 'up' a bit not at the absolute lowest part of the tank.

Ive never ran mine empty but I have ran it to where the dash says only a couple of miles left in the tank and it took 5 gallons to refill. I was hoping the extra gallon was a safety margin but maybe not.

I always thought that was the reserve portion. . . . for those that push it that extra little bit.

I have run mine to empty, It will hold 6 gallons of fuel. But you need to have that neck drilled or punched a hole in it so it can fill all the way up. It will hold a lot more fuel than just stopping when the pump first shuts off.

So. . . . what you're telling us is that the "fuel capacity" of 6.1gallons that Yamaha lists . . . . is actually 6.1 gallons of total volume. . . . not usable capacity?

I have ridden to the station trying to die, [without pushing] and put in 6 gallons to the brim. I would say if you are trying to use that last .1 you will be pushing.

Only if you can fill it to the brim.
And to do that you have to punch a hole on the right side of the filler tube up high. I used a nail or could use a punch. I held it with vice grips and wrapped in a shop rag. Hit it with a hammer. This lets you slowly fill up into the filler tube.

I've gotten 6 Gal in both the '12 and the '15 with no punching of holes. Once I got 6.1 in on the '12 and literally the engine died as I came down the off ramp in NV and coasted into the gas station pumps. That was on a 'brisk' pace ride and I went to vapor at 162 miles. I do fill all the way up until gas is at the bottom of the neck, sometimes with an extra shot.

Most S10s hit flashing reserve with ~1.5 gallons still in the tank. I like to tweak the fuel pump float arm a little so my reserve is closer to 1 gallon.

So, new to the Tenere here. Anybody got a pic of this hole you're punching in the tube? My Stelvio has an 8.5 gallon tank , but I have still managed to coast into a station once and push it in to a station once. I guess I like to go far between Fuel stops!
