RMac, that is a great price compared to what we have here. Do I hear a group buy from your US friends coming your way?

Rmac,
Are the OEM Grips really on sale there in Sweden?
Buy the Oxfords. On sale now and they have the mount, complete pre-terminated wiring harness (with a fuse) and auto shut off if the battery falls below 11.5-Volts:

Includes waterproof electronic controller with following features:
  • 5 power settings (100%, 75%, 40%, 30%, off)
  • Automatically turns grips off when bike is turned off (when battery voltage drops below 11.5 volts), preventing accidental battery drainage - no need to install a relay!
  • Double-stick tape included for flush mount of controller on fairing
  • Includes bracket for mounting controller on left-side handlebar control mount bolts (pre-drilled for two M6 mounting screws spaced 31mm-35mm apart on center)
  • Controller size: 56mm wide x 54mm tall x 20mm thick
  • LED indicates current power setting

Yes, I was convinced it was a mistake as the original price was SEK 4995! However, the OEM grips have held this reduced price for at least the past month here.

I would love to assist a group buy and spread the happiness, but no idea how to handle it and to be able to guarantee deliveries without any unforeseen/foreseen complications for either party...The other thing is to ensure that these grips for 2010 model are actually 100% compatible with 2011/2012 models...

I recommend interested individual to try to contact some of the Swedish parts dealers to see if they are willing/able to take orders and ship abroad...

http://www.yamaha-motor.se/dealerlocator/?mm4=SE

Write for example, Stockholm, in box to right of "ort / ev. gata" click on the motorbike symbol under "Produktgrupper" and check "Reservdelar MC" then click on "Hitta återförsäljare". This will give a list of part dealers and contact details in the Stockholm area.

Hey Twisted THrottle, does the Oxford have OEM wire connectors to plug into the factory grip heater connectors in the harness? I am not a cutter and splicer kind of person. I like the plug and play methods. If the oxfords had the OEM Plugs, this would be a possibility for me.

There is no need for it to plug into the Yamaha harness. It is a complete system.

The Oxford grips are wired direct to your motorcycle battery. They have a "cut-off" circuit in them that senses when the bike is turned off and automatically shuts off the heated grips if you forget to do it. The entire wiring harness is preterminated and needs no tools or crimping to install.

If you are installing many electrical accessories on your bike, you probably want to hook the Oxford grips up to a power distribution block. Most power distribution blocks, including the one we make, come with one "trigger" wire. The trigger wire should be tapped into a running light or headlight, thus automatically turning the power distribution block on and off. In order to connect such a trigger wire to your bike, a single "tap" connection is required using a Posi-tap. All other connections for a power distribution block are direct to battery.

You do get a Posi-Tap connector with our power distribution block. It is a neat little thing that works like this:

Here is what it will look like installed:

A little bit more information here: http://www.twistedthrottle.com/article/articleview/297/1/36/

For $79.95 you can do no better than the Oxford heated grips. Plus, they are in stock here in the US already. I've been unable to turn mine past 40% when riding. They get too hot if you can believe that. Thank god they have 4 heat settings [30%, 40% , 75%, 100%]

Grip pattern. Sport has more "Tooth". Touring is smoother and more comfortable for long days.
Can you post pictures of each?

TIA

Yes, some of the days. They should be open again on Monday, though probably be working with skeleton staffing during next week. I am on holiday myself until 10th Jan.

I will try to call the other parts dealer I mentioned next week to discuss this - assuming he is open.

It would be good to get some idea in advance about how many people may be interested in ordering the heated grips from Sweden? With the current low pricing I guess the margins for the dealer may not be very high and quantity may create greater incentive.

I phoned MC-Varuhuset today and the heated grips are in stock at the distributer at the SEK 995 price. It does not seem like they can/are interested in delivering these items to USA. The guy explained to me what I had already assumed that they will not make any money from this given the heavily reduced price and the "fact" that they "just do not" deliver items to foreign addresses. The probable reason for the price reduction in Sweden is that heated grips are considered essential kit and the heated grips for BMW bikes (the main competition) are significantly cheaper. So, this could be a move by Yamaha Scandinavia to attract greater number of pre-orders for 2011 Teneres.

The guy is however prepared to sell and deliver directly to me any number of grip sets I want. I am not 100% sure if I want to get into this to be honest, but it would still be good to know how many are interested? So, if you are interested please send a PM within the next few days and I can investigate what can be done.

The way I see it just now the cost to you would be:

995 SEK + possible shipping cost within Sweden to me + Shipping to US. Today's exchange rate is around 6.7 SEK/USD. Also note that Yamaha sell these grips for 2010 year model, so I cannot garantee any possible compatibility issue with US 2012 year model, although I suspect this would be unlikely to be a problem.
