Pressure

My take on it is the bike crankcase pressure must be high. I notice oil in the air box. I'm sure some ends up in the engine burnt. I rev my bike like i stole it sometimes. My Ducati 998 had the same issue but way worse. I don't believe the engine is burning oil from piston ring clearance. Yamaha builds the best motors going. I have a genesis R1 type motor that is turbo'd to 300hp and it has taken a major beating for 7 seasons and the motor is like new. 2-3% leak and normal compression. Thats engineering !

This is what I've noticed on my bike. Twice on long runs out West at high speeds all day long for several days I've had to add half a quart or so to make he light go out. Oil is being vaporized to the air box and most being used by the motor. Both times after big runs I've had small amounts of oil in the air box that didn't get used. No worries for me about this motor. It's a lot better than having a puddle under your bike.

Cars use PVC systems to remove the fumes inside the crankcase and reburn them using a hose to the air cleaner box.

Does the S10 design do the same?

Is the 2014 S10 the same as 2012 S10?

No PCV valve. The S10 has labyrinth system in the valve cover which acts as an oil separator before piping the remaining fumes to the airbox. The airbox does tend to collect a little oil and Yamaha has a drain in the lower left corner, but the amount in there between 12K servicing shouldn't be a whole lot; I recall maybe a teaspoon's worth.

Don't think anything has changed with the 14, but don't know for sure.

I think this is the first bike I have ever owned that was super stingy on oil consumption. Thank goodness.
14/ 800 Tiger I had almost needed an IV connected from new.

My RT made a Harley look good. It didn't leak, but used a bunch. But . . . . it used quarts less at 60K miles, than it did a 60 miles. None of my Japanese bikes have ever used much, if any. Never had to add between changes.
