Here’s my oil analysis from my 2014 S10 with 25k miles on it. The oil (Valvoline 10W/40 Synthetic from Walmart) had 4,269 miles on it and they suggest going to 5-6k intervals.
Take a second look, he has over 25,000 miles on the bike.Checkswrecks said:The low metal counts looks great.
The boron and sodium are in both grease and coolant. As this is the first oil change since breaking I wouldn't worry at all, but it will be interesting to see what they are next time.
I'd suggest planning to change next at 10,000 miles for several reasons:
Easy to remember on the 5,000 marks.
The sample rate will be nearly the same.
Slightly less than the called for number of miles, but not wastefully less.

The spreadsheet looks great. I have something similar with all the vehicles, which I can sort to any one of them.TenereStreets said:@Chainwrecks - When the oil was sent in I hadn't had the valves checked or any other work done to my bike. The oil was from the 6th oil change. Here's my maintenance spreadsheet. Anyone else keep records like this? Any suggestions?

I agree but I'm not sure why. Is getting oil analyzed a way to find out how well your oil is holding up to determine oil change intervals ?
Thanks
That makes sense. I wonder if manufactures use the oil change intervals based on info. they get from from oil makers who want to sell oil, using data from testing, or just some new guy writing copy for owners manuals that thinks 3k sounds good ?TenereStreets said:@LJM – I was curious in what the results would say and if I could go longer that 4k miles between oil changes as the U.S. owner’s manual recommends. Strangely, the euro owner’s manual recommends every 6k miles. I’ll be doing 6k intervals now and do another oil analysis when my bike hits 50k miles.
U.S. manual on left, euro on right.
Thanks, that's what I thought if you're going to the trouble of analyzing old oil.TenereStreets said:I replace the oil filter when changing the oil. I use the OEM oil and air filters.
$38. If you don't want to know the TBN then it'd be $10 less. More info on their site: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/do-i-need-a-tbn.phpHarry Dresden PI said:Thanks for sharing.
What does this oil analysis cost?
