Forecast was wrong, not a single drop of rain on our ride today. Those that left early missed out. It did start raining 10 minutes after we got back ~6pm though. How's that for timing. Tomorrow should be sunny and dry.

Taking the lead from the local guys [Lucas and Todd], I packed up just as the storm hit last night and after a quick farewell headed north on 89, ending up in Panguitch. Finished the ride in torrential rain and sleet. Even for a Canadian that was no fun. Woke up this morning to snow and 29F (-2C). Am presently looking for a way west to a warmer and drier locale. Despite the weather I enjoyed the rally and meeting all the others. I will post up some photos when my camera thaws out. Cheers, David

After looking at the 1" of rain forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, I may have been the first to bug out and head for parts of the radar map that were not covered with green. I'm glad you guys had some dry riding on Wednesday.

It seems like the weather came in bands extending from the SW to NE so I headed due north on 89 riding through a good bit of rain Wednesday morning. Then the sky turned blue as I continued and I had a great day's ride all the way up to Twin Falls, ID where it dumped on me again for the last 60 miles. <grin> I left Twin Falls at 5:30 AM the next morning to get to Oregon before forecasted AM heavy winds showed up in Idaho. As I rode out of town, I was in a heavy thunderstorm with lightning, the heaviest rain I've ever ridden in and the sun wasn't even up. Eventually the rain stopped and it got gray and colder. I passed a couple of Harley rental riders (same bikes, gear, chaps, jackets, helmets, etc...) and thought how cold and wet they must be in their wet jeans while I was toasty warm and dry in my Aerostich and heated gear.

My goal for the trip was to road test my new auxiliary tank and that was a total success. It holds 4.9 gallons which doubles my fuel range. My reserve warning came on at 417 miles on the way down. With a little reserve fuel now in both tanks, I bet I could have gone another 50 miles. I don't know if I'd ever live it down though if I ran out of gas with the aux tank on there. <grin> I also finally got to stay at the Nevada Hotel & Gambling Hall in Ely, NV on Hwy 50. It's cheap, clean and the food was good. They also let you park your bike right at the front door.

I posted a few pics and David, there are a couple of you.

It was sure great seeing all the riders and their bikes! I'm sorry the rain played such havoc with our planned routes. Toroweap is still waiting for us. Maybe another year. The Zion Ponderosa did a good job accommodating our wet and muddy needs even giving us a carpeted conference room to throw our bags. Good food in the restaurant and they served a beverage to those who wanted...
I have posted all my pictures and video to my Facebook site. It's "Luke Atwell" and has a picture of me holding a black lab puppy. Go to my Pictures and under Albums look for the 2016 Utah Super Tenere Rally. You can copy any you want.
Even fighting the Wx, it was a wonderful time catching up with old friends and meeting new ones! Todd and I came home last night in a driving sleet, hail, raining thunderstorm after dark. When we got to NV, the cross wind was blowing 30-40 mph... just couldn't catch a break!!! But on the upside, it dried us out :) Lemons to Lemonade...
A shout out to the Canadians who came down! A great group of fellows... Steve, just how big a boy are you? :) And David's "The Man" from Calgary!!!
Safe travels to all heading home. Until the next time... be safe and have fun!!!

The trip there was fantastic. Too bad ma nature played a cruel joke on us, the people at the ponderosa where top notch. Had a great time meeting new folks and catching up with old acquaintances
Looking forward to what the future has for us.
Thanks Luke and also Steve Gunn for putting together a few donated items for a draw see you on the road

Chris and I had a great time riding out, meeting new friends, and seeing old friends. It was great seeing everyone that attended, and hearing the stories of their travels there.
Can't wait to see the Iowa crowds pictures, and great seeing the canadiens again. (Yes, that's how us French speaking hosers spell Canadiens!)
The resort definitely when out of their way to accommodate us and make us comfortable.
Here are some pics of our trip, in random order:

Once again, great seeing everyone, Thanks to everyone involved in putting this on, we had a great time!

Hey boys and girls, for those who went to Page AZ and passing all those old time bikes going 35-40 mph in the opposite lane: That was the "Cannonball Run" from Coast to Coast from New Jersey to California on all original bikes from 1914 HDs to 1936 Indians, with all types of bikes. Only the tires could be new. They couldn't be towed or trailered more than a 1/2 mile to stay with the group. It turns out, we have a friend from Vegas in the ride, Dean Vincent Borrdigioni riding a 1914 Harley. Small world isn't it?

Luke,
Thanks for posting what those old bikes were doing, and leading us around for a couple days. I left Friday morning, it was cold, but the sun finally came out.

Likewise here, very glad I detoured from my travels to attend.

Few observations that occured to me on my way riding out.

Gen 1 bikes out numbered Gen 2 probably 3 to 1. Three years of Gen 2 production here in NA versus only two for Gen 1.

Attendees were mostly non or seldom posters on the forum. Cant think of a single high post activity member that was there.

East coast participation was all but absent but had plenty of Canadians riding just as far to attend.

Great event, despite the weather.

Tuesday - Bryce Canyon and Duck Creek/Najo Lake
Wednesday - Glen Canyon/Lake Powell and Northern AZ
Thursday - Zion and Duck Creek Lava Fields
Friday - Grand Canyon/Point Sublime (almost)

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this a fun time.

Hey Gunner. Thanks again for the decals and most of all that nice Yamaha Jacket! Could you please send me the name, address and maybe the email of the owner of the shop who donated the jacket. I'll send him/her a nice thank you letter.
That jacket saved my frozen body on that wet, hailing, windy way home. It was sure good meeting you and seeing old Taco Papa again! Thanks again! Luke

I was one of two from California. I am really glad I went. The last day ride in Arizona with Dale, Rick, Brian and David was epic. Riding through the herd of buffaloes was something I will never forget. Also a big thanks to Luke for taking us out and showing us some beautiful country.

So glad to see this ended up being a success. So bummed I had to bail on it. Wish you could have had better weather but nothing you can do about that. Also glad the Resort was accommodating. Anyone get a count on the number of bikes that actually made it? Hope everyone made it home safe.

I am really hoping there will be an "OFFICIAL" 2nd Annual Southern Utah Tenere Rally 2017 so I can attend. I'm really mad at myself for not making this trip.

Looks like you guys had a great time!

Alright Utah Men and Women, In my haste to pack and beat the thunderstorm, I left the one and only Ball and Rope on the picnic table. Yes, yes, I know that's my loss but I hope one of you picked it up and took it. I brought it to be a door prize, so whoever ended up with it, congratulations for winning the other BIG prize!!!!! :). Please give it a good home and try to tie the knot in 50-80 tries. . . Tougher than it looks..... I promise you! It would be nice to know who got that great prize? Please shoot me a line if it's you. Thanks :)
