For those coming from more humid climates, a note of caution. Stay hydrated! Plan on carrying at least a gallon of water on any dirt involved ride and maybe 2 for the Toroweap Lookout run. The first sigh of dehydration is a headache out here, and then you're behind the power curve trying to drink to catch up... You don't sweat out here in the "dry heat" but you're losing water, even while you sleep as it's very common to have single to low teen humidity numbers. Many buy a simple gallon jug of water with a screw on lid for one of their boxes. The road trips will stop and have cold beverages along the way, but don't forget it is Utah.
As an Arizona native I just want to strongly second what Luke has said. I highly suggest having a camelback filled with water that you can sip on while you're riding. I always wear my 100oz Camelback Mule on longer rides. On some multi-hour rides it isn't uncommon for me to consume more than a gallon of water and still not pee a whole lot. The warm, dry air here really pulls the water out of you.

Eemsreno, There is no permission needed to go to Toroweap that I know of. Talked at length with Todd (Darth Raven) who will lead that first trip, and no mention of any permits. There is a ranger station you can stop and say Hi to about 40 miles in and by that time you're in the National Park. Just confirmed with Todd you do Not need a pass. Hope this helps :)

I probably won't make it. Still haven't decided whether to fly out and steal Luke's Vstrom and come up for a night. Anyway, here's the link you want to look at for info about Toroweap. I wouldn't recommend going out there solo on a moto but Luke will tell you I'm a worrier. (That's what I get paid for at my job). I'd probably try to have some room on one of the bikes to ride someone out if there's a mechanical OR some way to camp out even if it isn't permitted.

You guys have fun and be safe and give TwoLukes a drink for me! :D

I have a question on that Toroweap ride, Do we have to have a special permit to get on Navaho Land for that ride?
Steve,

I think the Toroweap overlook is in the National Park. If you want to camp there overnight you will need a permit, otherwise no permit is required to ride out to the overlook.

There are a couple of Indian Reservations on the South Rim that collect access fees, the Hualapai Indian Reservation ( the Skywalk is on their reservation) and the Havasupai Indian Reservation (Havasu Falls).

Well this is one trip I really wanted to do but it's just not working out. 3,500km (2100 miles ) from my door to Zion. Still can't get my boot on from the swelling and three 700 mile days wont work. Take lots of pics guys and be safe.

HERE WE GO! Almost ready to roll. Super excited to be in the Zion NP area. Might be in camp on Monday night and ready for a Tuesday ride, if anyone's game. ::022::

I'm looking at maps and places to visit with road tires on Wednesday and Thursday. I put two routes together, one to the North Rim and another to Bryce Canyon. You can see them in this folder:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B8GBQeKr5jQEUmxMVXlQQ21nTnM?usp=sharing

Here's a link to the Google Map >> https://drive.google.com/open?id=1B8vzsygirjK2kbGAH85lxm2mor0&usp=sharing

I located some gas stations and places to eat and they are on the map too. I've never been to the North Rim and that looks pretty cool.

If you have *.kmz, *.kml, *.gpx files to share for routes, I'll turn on folder sharing for you or perhaps folks could post links here. It's much easier to get stuff into the GPSs before the trip. Still looking for more ride ideas including a good route home that would go north towards Salt Lake. Anyone been on the Skyline Drive Byway? I've heard it can be a slip and slide after rains but the weather looks good.

OK Riders, I'm on my way from Las Vegas. I'll see you there and ride safe.

PNelson, Thanks for the post and help with routes. Let's get together when you get there and maybe I can get you to lead the ride to the North Rim Visitor's Center? ;-)

Please be safe on the way and I look forward to meeting all of you this week !!!!!!

Our group is in Escalante for the night. Arrive at the Ponderosa tomorrow. Road the Burr trail road today. In excellent condition, rideable with road tires.

Have fun and stay safe everyone! I unfortunately will not be attending after all, as I need to catch up with things here after a week on the road, plus I booked some more much-needed work this week.
