Hey Ladies and Gents, Luke here in Las Vegas. I looked at rides tonight and will discuss with Todd (Darth Raven) different routes for us early next week. We both have ridden many of the Southern Utah back roads and are willing to lead a few rides, both on and off road. I have several of the expanded Utah and Arizona maps that I'll bring and copies of routes Todd and I decide on. Right now here are some of the options we are looking at for day trips:

Toroweap Overlook of the Grand Canyon - about 60 miles of dirt

North Rim of the Grand Canyon Visitors Center - all road

Grovesnor Arch/Kodachrome Basin/Bryce NP - about 50 miles of good dirt road

Burr Trail - Highway to trail then about 70 miles long (first 30 paved) some sand and impassable when wet (advanced riders)

Lake Powell/ Antelope Canyon - all road and about $50 for a tour

Mammoth Caves (Lava Tubes to explore) / Duck Creek / Strawberry Point - 20+ miles of very well kept dirt road to Strawberry Point

Bryce National Park and secret waterfall swim - all Road and 1/4 mile hike to fall

This is just the start of our thinking with several launches each morning, repeating the next day so you can catch several trips. Todd and I can lead any of these, but will need help from our local brothers (Utah and AZ riders with Southern Utah experience) to take more groups.
Again, I'll bring maps and clipboards to sigh up on and will appreciate our friends bringing a white board to post departure times.

For those coming from more humid climates, a note of caution. Stay hydrated! Plan on carrying at least a gallon of water on any dirt involved ride and maybe 2 for the Toroweap Lookout run. The first sigh of dehydration is a headache out here, and then you're behind the power curve trying to drink to catch up... You don't sweat out here in the "dry heat" but you're losing water, even while you sleep as it's very common to have single to low teen humidity numbers. Many buy a simple gallon jug of water with a screw on lid for one of their boxes. The road trips will stop and have cold beverages along the way, but don't forget it is Utah.

I plan on meeting Darth Sunday night or Monday, if he's available, to map some of these out. If you have places you want us to look at, please answer here or pm me to TwoLukes. Also my phone number is (702) 682-LUKE (5853) so you can call or text me. I have a couch and spare bedroom if any are traveling through Vegas (and maybe a beverage in the frig), but Todd and I might be leaving the Sunday before to explore routes. Todd doesn't know this yet :)

We look forward to seeing all our Tenere friends again and meeting new ones! Luke

I will most likely be putting in no more than an overnight stay on this trip. Have yet to decide which days that will be.

Making plans for the trip and confirming:

Group tent camping is available for $13 a night with no advance registration required? Just so up? Group camp area is already reserved for Tenere rally?

There are no additional fees for pool etc...?

Looks like buffet breakfast available at a good price and nice menu for dinner.

Anything else we should know or do before showing up?

;-) Paul << Yes, a control freak but information is always a good thing. <grin>

Logistics question. I understand food is available at the resort. What about beverages? It is, after all, Utah. Should I be stopping somewhere in Nevada and loading up?

Also, many of the routes TwoLukes posted sound good. David

Doug C, info is power, an old military adage... I thought it's $11 a night, but inexpensive for what you get :). Pool, showers, grass to tent in. I think you'll like it. You can also sigh up for ATV rides on 4 wheelers, or zip line, or climb their rock wall , a lot of amenities but at a small fee! I've been known to play a little ping pong in the barn, on occasion... ;-). Text my phone if you have any question or need help as you get closer. (702) 682-5853.

Fatally, your question depends... I'd suggest, (off the record) you bring a flask of your favorite beverage if it's harder than suds. They have a little store at Zion P by the restaurant for sodas and snacks. I can't remember if adult beverages are there. You closest gas station is Mt. Carmel Junction (15-20 miles) and they might sell a Polygamy Porter (Why have only one?) (Their ad, not mine ;-) or other such toddies... It is Utah, but they have come a long ways in recent years to accommodate non-members... But no better people on earth!

FOR ALL: There are deer everywhere in this state! Please be aware and ride accordingly.. They blend in perfectly and will jump.. Don't get upended by the wildlife.
Also, many roads are 80 mph. These speeds are on the slabs... The Utah HP are great folks and very respectful, but they will hand out tickets on the 2 lanes for non-observance of posted speed. Many of the little towns have speed traps so observe the posted 25 mph in them...

Ok, that's it for tonight... Safe travels to all

Hey Lukes,
Thanks for the route research, and suggestions, glad to see all is well in your corner of the world.
If I recall, alcohol purchasing is hit or miss depending on what town or county you are in. Some are dry, most are not. ::012::
Looking forward to seeing everyone again, and meeting new folks.
Utah is a great place to ride!

To all of the attendees for the Zion Park Rally, this should be an absolutely fantastic event! Being from Utah I can attest to this first hand. If you have not been to this part of the country the riding is spectacular and the venue superb! Moto-Skiveez® was very much looking forward to exhibiting at this event. Unfortunately we have had a recent conflict of schedule and will not be able to make it. However, I want to extend an offer to anyone that might be interested in any Moto-Skiveez products prior to the trip. Our Tri-Fold hat has been extremely popular. With any order, if you add one of our hats to your cart and use coupon code "tenere" we will credit off the cost of the hat. A $19.95 value. Again, our sincere apologies for not being able to make this event as I know first hand how great this resort and area is.

Best of luck for a great event and safe travels to everyone attending.

Plans have changed over here.
My wife can't make the trip.
So I am packing light and have some wild good off road stuff planned for on the way out.
Like the Sunset Pass on the Flint Trail that crosses the Dirty Devil River in Utah.
Then the Wolverine Loop and side shoots off of it [off the Burr Trail]

If you want to do some very remote camping and riding join up with us.
I don't have a phone but I will have a Spot running so you can find us at any time.
Here is the link and the pass word to log on is steverenotenere

Packing light.

Come on Limey, there is no road you couldn't ride out here. I'll pick something special for you! Again, it's not a real rally without you in attendance! ! !

Met with Darth tonight. We put together 4 solid rides. He will lead a Toroweap Overlook ride Wed morning while I lead a Grosvenor Arch, Kodachrome Basin, Mossy Cave, Bryce N.P. ride. I have mapped out a Duck Creek, Mammoth Cave, Strawberry Point route that I'd love someone to pick up the lead. And a North Rim of the Grand Canyon, all road, ride to see the visitors center and the lodge. Hopefully, someone will take the lead on that also :)

On Thursday, I'll take the Toroweap crowd and Darth (Todd) will take the Grosvenor Arch Crowd. My plan is to have a few leaders to rotate the routes so the participants can see as much as possible.

There are many, many routes in this area, so if you know one, take a few guys with you. I'll have expanded maps at the campsite.

I understand there are a few that want to try the Burr Trail. That a great ride also to the Bullfrog Marina and ferry. The "Miley Twists " are dirt and snakily curved for the advanced riders, if someone wants to tackle that route.

I plan on leaving Las Vegas Sunday afternoon to set up camp that night. So when you get there, I'll be looking for you to help with the lay of the land. I look forward to seeing you all! Safe travels my friends!

Limey, we would sure like to see you there Saturday morning . I know just getting a cast off doesn't mean it still doesn't hurt.

I have a question on that Toroweap ride, Do we have to have a special permit to get on Navaho Land for that ride?
