Greetings folks,

Just picked up "Babe" (my wife named it after Paul Bunyun's blue ox) and have put about 150 miles on it so far. Gotta love Hwy 1 north of Point Reyes :).

I started off in Touring mode and wound up in Sport after about 80 miles (wow what a difference). I noticed in both modes an off idle stumble, and even stalled it a few times when blipping the throttle. Has anyone else noticed this and found a cause/fix?

There have been a few I have read about doing that initially, but after the motor frees up it disappears. Give it a while and see how it goes.

I don't talk from personal experience yet though :'(

Cheers
Graham

I have the same issue. No stalls but it is noticeable. I suspect our special CA models are worse. We also have no CO adjustment capability. I will remedy this next week with PC V.

Right on Devin, I'll look forward to hearing how the PC V affects the CA model. I doubt that binning the charcoal canister will help anything, but I suspect mine will be falling off soon anyway. In the meantime I'll force myself to run the miles up and see if she loosens up.

I've had some stalling issues. I think it's attributed to letting the clutch out with no additional throttle. This clutch starts to engage early in the lever travel but it should improve over time. I have not noticed any off idle stumble or any at 2500-3500 and I've really tried to pay attention to that. There is a definite fuel cut off; this thing decelerates like a a diesel with a jake brake!

One thing I saw is that the CA models have a different part# for the throttle bodies than the 49 state'ers.

As far the the canister is concerned, where the f#&* is it? Usually those things are tacked on where all the world can see. They did a real good job of hiding this one cause I haven't found it, but then I haven't disassembled the bike either!

Hey Tubebender, the charcoal cannister is under the front seat / tank area just behind the throttle bodies and is laying horizontally. I am looking forward to someone documenting the best way to get rid of this excess stuff.Maybe a groupbuy of 49 state throttlebodies will be in order. I have a PCV coming next week.

BTW, I spoke to Eagle Mike a few days ago and he said you were stoked on the new bike. We will have to get together for a ride soon. I will be out tonight and tomorrow morning, Sunrise, Laguna, Julian and maybe Palomar.

Wow the throttle body on California bikes is different?!?! I find it hard to believe they couldn't tune it with the standard setup to pass CARB. Boy I sure do love living in California, but sometimes I have to shake my head about all the damn regulations.

On a brighter note, I'm going to go put my Motorrad pipe on now.... and CARB can kiss my a$$ >:D

I agree, it sucks some of the crap we have to put up with. I will look forward to hearing how you like the exhaust. Videos and pics are always good. :)

I have noticed this. A slight flat spot just off idle, especially noticeable in sport mode when the trottle plates open faster.

I have a habit of blipping the throttle as I pull off. Does two things, lets my riding partners know I am pulling out, and second kicks the revs up a tad as you are easing the clutch out. It has stalled a couple times when I blipped it, and sometimes it coughs back in the intake.

Probably lean.

I have yet to dig in. First, do we have the ability to make slight adjustments to air fuel like the Euro bikes? Can we mod with a jumper like the US FJR? And I likely will be installing a full exhaust system, which will require the PC, which will cure lean.

Long winded version of I aint gonna sweat it.

+1 - You can drive yourself crazy trying to get rid of every little anoyance and it may just sort itself out with some miles on it.

If I am correct this bike as with most modern fuel injected motorcycles uses a different map program in the lower gears, only allowing partial power until about 4th or 5th gear. I have a GiPro, a gear indicator with a built in timing retard eliminator (TRE) on my C-14 Concours which allows me to choose which gear the bike thinks its in. By choosing the 5th gear map in the GiPro, my Concours has a different power curve in gears 1 thru 3, much better ridability. HealTech makes the GiPro but it looks like the one they offer for the Super Tenere does not have the TRE built in.
Does anyone know if something similar to this is available ?

I've noticed the flat spot on mine, too, but did not on the bike in Europe last Winter. I'm thinking that it may have come from the re-mapping to make US EPA requirements.

I plan to put it down as a warranty complaint at the first service inspection and hope others do too. I'm sure that this is software and hoping that if enough of us do, Yam will start working on a revision.

A thread back from the dead.

But do a search on adjusting the throttle body by opening the idle air screw 3/4 of a turn and then synchronizing them. Way better when finished.
