A Yamaha Rep at the Greenville SC IMS told me that as of the end of January, 608 Teneres have been ordered. He said Yamaha wanted to get 1000 orders by March 31st. He also said that Yamaha is pleased with the orders so far considering that they have not been agressivily advertising the bike YET.

He had no word when in May delivery would begin.

I was at the show today, got to see and sit on the Tenere for the first time. I'm very impressed with the bike, cant wait to get mine but I guess I'll have to wait.

608 is pretty good so far. I was surprised to find that my dealer didn't know that the PDP program was till going on as of yesterday. I told him it was through March. I think we all know more details than the dealers.

+1.......was there and sat on both models (one with cases and one without). Was great to see it in person finally! :)

I haven't seen a TV spot run yet. I don't think I've seen an ad in a US mag either.

DOH: an S10 ad ran in the Cycle World that did a "first ride" story on the bike.

Interesting that he volunteered that number. There was a regional sales meeting this week and the number as of now is higher, but that number may have been correct for almost a month ago. I was asked not to publish the number, but they are pleased.

I think Yamaha should be thanking us for all of the orders to date .... maybe they'd like to donate some Yamaha kit for another little competition. ;)

Interesting numbers!!! I have always wondered how close the order numbers track on ADVrider to the "real" ones. As of now, the number is 279 over there.

I think it is a straight line boat ride from Japan to the west coast. Somalia not even close.

My dealer did not know what a Super Tenere was. He had to look it up on a computer.

I thought about asking my dealer to leave the bike in the crate when it shows up. I'll have to trailer it home anyway.

A benefit of being a part time employee of my dealer is I get to uncrate and set up my own bikes. The manufacturers supply detailed setup instructions, but not everyone takes the time to read and/or follow them. Mine are always set up properly.

Fred,

Maybe you coils post the instructions so others can double check the dealer's work? As long as that won't violate any agreements between Yamaha and their dealers.

There shouldn't be any problem with me copying the instructions and posting them. Nothing secret there. When I set up my last ST1300 I did a pictoral and posted it on the st-owners site and got a lot of good feedback and I hope to do that here with the S10. It will be interesting to see how much is involved in setting it up. Some bikes are simple and some are a pain in the butt. For instance, I can do a Goldwing in about an hour, but some of the Yamaha cruisers take most of a day, with all the extra stuff that comes with them that has to be installed. Also, I hate to say it, but Yamaha's setup instructions are worlds behind Honda's. A couple years ago we had a visit from a Yamaha rep that handled maintenance issues, etc. The mechanics sent him to the set up shop where I was working that day. He asked us if we had any problems and I showed him the difference in set up instructions. All he could do was agree with us that this was certainly a problem. I might as well have been talking to the wall.

I don't think there will be too much to set up on the S10 and I will try to remember to document it and post it here. I say try to remember, because part of the set up process is to fill out two sections of the checklist, one before it is started and one after it is started and ridden. Now, some just get a leasurely ride around the lot, to check the brakes, shifting, etc, but if the bike happens to be something that happens to be "interesting" it just might get a dealer plate on it before it gets a thorough check out ride. ;D
