OEM Yamaha Super Tenere factory tank bag mounting solution

So I purchased this tank bag right after I got my bike. I've struggled with it moving around more than I liked. Magnet mounted bags are what I have always used. But the single magnet on this one is not really as strong as other brands. I know there are dozens of different tank bags from strap mounted to tank ring styles. IMHO the fit and design of the one I got is really nice. I just like the way it molds perfectly around the tank and the looks.

So today I spent a good hour analyzing and decided to try something. At first I used the rock straps. No good way to fit them without removing the seat to get tank bag off. So I went through all my straps and and found the solution. Mosko Moto to the rescue!! I used a few brand new spare straps. Tank bag is now rock solid, easy to remove and I'm pleased. I also used a little blue painters tape under the bag where it was starting to wear the paint. The reality is this bag is pretty much a permanent fixture to the bike. I'm sure over time the underside will wear the paint to some degree.

I almost ditched this bag and got the Giant Loop setup. IMHO this is the hot ticket for our bikes. Pricy but something I might consider down the road. Thank you dmulk!

I was also contemplating the new SW Motech GS tank bag. The City bag has been discontinued and replaced with the GS bag. It's super humongous!! 16-22 liters and a foot wide. Way Too big!!

I'm happy with what I have now. Perfect fit!! 8 liters is more than enough for snacks, wipes, maps etc. Very simple to remove and replace with quick clips. And the straps are tucked away under the seat.

I love my givi TB with the tank ring. No rubbing and scratching.

Nice work around Chris. You might consider some clear vinyl on the tank to prevent paint wear. I put some large pieces on the Wife's bike where her knees hit the tank and would eventually cause scratches and wear. Just stopped by the local car wrapping shop and they gave me some scraps to play with for free. Might have helped that I had them wrap my front upper panels a month or so before that.

Right now I'm using blue painters tape. I'll see how it works.

Over time the adhesive hardens and it will be a real pain to remove the tape and adhesive mess. The vinyl comes off years later w/o damage to the paint or residue left behind. The painters tape is a great short term solution, just less than optimal for long term.

I am on my second S10 with the same Yamaha tank bag used on both, for a total of over 70k miles. My solution for this and other tank bags I have used on other bikes is a piece of rubberized shelf liner that prevents it from slipping. Just place it on the tank, lay the bag over it and it stays in place. I only have to use the one strap at the rear of the bag and the front hook that goes over the tank lip, so one snap and it comes off when refuelling. Non permanent and a lifetime roll is about $5 at Wal Mart.

Any idea where I can get the one strap used on the end of the bag closest to the seat? I bought a S10 with thus bag and it didn't come with the straps.
Thanks

My first Tenere came with a Givi tank ring bag, they seem crazy expensive but after using one for 70,000+ miles I wouldn’t buy a tankbag without the ring. It’s very convenient and no straps to mess with, no chance of scratching the tank.
Over the years I’ve had a few different tank bags, the magnetic ones were great and never caused any damage but in those days I only had street bikes so didn’t ride a lot of dirt roads with all the dust That could build up under the magnets and Eventually cause scratches .

The Yamaha tank bag scuffed my paint. I bought a Givi with the tank ring and love it.

If I could do it over I would have had a tint shop put a clear wrap on my tank.
