I have the OEM crash guards and I really like them, they look bad ass.: however the obvious caveat is that the vulnerable radiator fairing and other are still exposed... anyone know of an add-on guard to attach to the oems for added protection?? I saw on instagram that some euro S10s have them but i dont know about here...

Rumbux used to make them, but those are no longer available. That replaced the upper hoop with one with side protection. There is another add on bar that helps, DS Bike protection bars that also fit to the OEM crash bars to offer better side protection.

I've the dsprotectiononmy Tènèrè and had it on the last 2. It still allows to open battery compartment without removing protection. It works I've dropped twice at standstill and bars take fall well

Nice to see a fellow Downstate NYer with a S10.
The S10 pic in your avatar looks to be the outside of NY Honda Yamaha.
I ride out East (North & South Forks) quite often, perhaps we can meet up sometime and hit the roads and trails.

They work. Two minor tip overs, no damage.

I put these, maybe they seem little, but after watching video, i think it is enough
They are what I use. MASTECH P/N 103.009. I'm not an engineer, but I've seen how "stuff" reacts in crashes. The Mastech bars use the same anchor points that the "little piece of plastic" uses. Since I trust Yamaha to know where the bike is designed to take a hit, the Mastech bars made sense to me. They bolt together, and support each other, and are attached to the bike's strong points. I asked a Yamatech what he thought of them, and even questioned the attachment point to the block. His opinion, and mine, is that if you crash hard enough to break the block where they attach, the rest of the bike is probably equally destroyed. So, for less then $200.00 (US) I think they will provide all the protection that "I" need.

EDIT: the ST 1300 has similar plastic pieces; they work fantastic. "Tested" them several times. They hold up well over repeated testing, with less collateral damage than the Yamaha's.

So has anyone else ever ordered from DS bike and had shipped to U.S.? I haven’t seen the blue worldcrosser decal kit anywhere else but I’m apprehensive to order from overseas.

The DS Bike Protection upper crashbars for the XT1200Z Super Ténéré are designed to complement your OEM Yamaha lower crashbars. The bars are made from 25mm O.D. steel tubing with 2mm wall thickness and are available in black powdercoat. The rear mount bolts to the frame of the bike, while the front uses a heavy duty clamp to mount to the Yamaha crashbars. All mounting hardware is included for an easy bolt-on installation.
Watching the video might help

I have a feeling bolting those things on isn’t going to be anywhere near as sturdy as welded on bars.

Lautarooo have you mounted them yet ?
i think these guys may have sent the bars without mountain hardware and no instructions.. the front clamps which is obvious.. but the back has a bracket and a bolt and I dont see where to mount.. I gotta look into it.. do you have a photo of yours?

Looks easy to mount. Clamps up front the the same rear bolts used by your lowers. No instructions is disappointing, but the pictures are very clear.

I purchased the upper bars from DS. They make the Battery panel a pain to remove but work. DS could package a lot better so I didn't need to go out and buy hardware. Bought my S10 used and it came with the bars in the fifth post. Dumped the bike and they did a great job. I went to the OEM bars to allow attaching highway pegs. T he long legs need a place to relax on longer rides.

I share it because I found it interesting. I think all Crash Bars serve their purpose, which is basically to protect the sides in a fall. Not all are screwed in the same way, some individually (such as oem sliders or original crash bars), others are joined by a plate that is screwed to the chassis. But all share the same, the radiator base is anchored to slider / crash bar. In the photo you can see, as in the fall the anchor of the chassis did not break but it bent and broke the base of the radiator. the side panels are fine. It seems to me that the base of the radiator should be anchored, independent of the crash bars
