I was in Falaise, Normandy just 10 days ago. Nice little town and it has the very impressive castle of William the Conquerer, (or William the Bastard as he is also known), sitting there above it all. Worth a trip if you are into castles and history. Enjoy the ride and I’m looking forward to your photos!

Talking about St. Nazaire, a neighbour of mine passed away, oh, must be about 15 years or so ago. I went to his funeral to pay my respects and there was a resume of his life read out. Turns out he was an ex-firefighter but more importantly perhaps was that he was a frogman in WWII and he was one of the frogmen who was part of Operation Chariot who got into the U Boat pens in St. Nazaire to plant explosives in order to effect one of the turning points in WWII, a real hero who never spoke about that part of his life at all!

My grandfather was the same way, rarely talked about what he did in WWII. Right before he passed, I found out that he too had been a frogman, but in the Pacific. He was part of Merril's Marauders.
