I saw my first 401 yesterday. First impression? Small. But then bikes have grown larger since the 70’s.

rider was in the number 1 lane, on the interstate, in down town traffic. His body language made me think he did not want to be there

I have the itch for a new bike again, and the 901 is one that is on my radar along with the 890 Adventure.

I was a little concerned when I went back to the chain on my Tiger 900, but not anymore. I just changed mine at 34K miles, with it still looking good, and just at the stretch limit.

There is no 801 that I know of. There is a 401 and 701 both naked bikes and the Norden 901 which is basically an upscale KTM 890 Adventure. My 901 has 4500 miles on it and it's a great bike, a blast to ride and very comfortable. Like many other bikes the stock windshield is tragic but they offer an accessory shield that's working well for me. Modern chains are hassle free so no worries there.

And now you can get a 901 for just a donation...RideBDR 901.

I was exactly the same way. Too many amazing chain drive bikes out there for me to ignore them due to a chain. I'll ignore and abuse the chain instead. I will give it a chain oiler...I'm not an amimal. Change the set out every valve check and repeat. A chain is no longer a factor crossing my mind when evaluating my next bike.

Мой 901 проехал 4500 миль, и это отличный байк

На ваш взгляд, много ли пластика спереди? Как думаете, будет тарахтеть на кочках? Ну в общем это 890 KTM Adventure! Они одинаковы по ходовым качествам?

Although I did get 34K miles on the last chain, and it was technically within the specs, I will not do that again. Something like what you mentioned, 18K, or I if I keep this bike, 24K miles for changing it. There is a noticeable difference in smoothness with the new chain. So far, in the last two weeks, I have put a little over 2,000 miles on the new chain, and it is just about out and will need to be adjusted when I get home tomorrow. Not bad for a brand new chain, and expected.

* I do keep tools with me to adjust the chain, if needed, on the road.

Interesting, I did have my chain set changed out about 5K miles ago. Still haven't adjusted it since then. Of course I did have at tire change after the swap, so that counts as an adjustment. I didn't do it. I'm trying so hard to not to be the one turning wrenches on the current (and future) fleet.

I’ve been jonesing for a new bike and been trying to find a 901 locally and they are impossible to find within 800 miles.

I have seen where KTM is selling the bikes with full electronics working then after a trial period they shut it all down and if you want all the features you have to go back and pay for the software to get it all working again. I am just waiting for not only bikes but cars as well to sell you a vehicle and then charge you a monthly or annual subscription to keep it right and all the features working. I can see it coming. Tractor manufacturer's already say they own the software in the tractor you bought and are making some extreme expenses for farmers trying to keep them running. I hear Harley is looking into doing something similar. Corporate greed is rampant. Hope that doesn't happen but it is on the way.

Corporate Greed has been with us since the creation of money.
