Yup, It's all about the torque It's all about the torque.
To make higher power on the Tracer you need to "wring its neck". Not so with larger displacement engines. I believe the Ten's red line is just shy of 8G and the Tracer is somewhere around 11G. If you cruise your Tracer at 75-80 MPH (say 125-130 KPH) is it "buzzy"??
My Honda CB650F was very fast, but at speeds over 100 KPH, it sure let you know.
Having said this, the S-10 is easily 50 KG, 100 lbs heavier than the Tracer.
I'm gonna guess, the Tracer could likely blow the pants off the Tenere from zero to 60 (100).

Have you ridden a yamaha triple? It's plenty large at 855cc.

You can roll over/flip the FZ09 on throttle alone in the 1st two gears, withoug trying. It's just over 400LB wet.
Zac C did a great review of the redesigned MT-09. The 2nd gen TC is much better on the triples. It lets you loft the front end, but will not let you slide out.
The FJ09 is plenty fast too. Turn off TC and it wheelies on throttle. Around 425LB wet
These are not high revving bikes, or need any coaxing to make them go fast.
I've got about 25k km combined between the FJ and FZ09. Would buy another one for shits and giggles, but cost is prohibitive for a 2nd bike.

The CB650 is old tech. and is a typical 4cyl where it needs revs. The triples do not, and are smooth.
The MT Tracer gained weight due to the extra gubbins. It will slow the bike somewhat.. but not much.

The triple is Yamaha's best motor of the last 10 yrs. It's smooth, powerful, and fuel efficient. And it sounds like a million bucks with a good pipe.

They will get their money out of it. FZ09, FJ09, XSR900, MT09, MT09 TRACER/TRACE GOO, NIKKEN.

The tenere is built for torque, and longevity, and is somewhat blunted by the weight. It's a quick bike if you want it to be.

Apples and oranges.

Thanks for the insight on the Yammer triple, I think it is an 847 cc. Agree anything I have read about these bikes equipped with this engine is all very positive. Bottom line, it all depends on what you want to do with your bike. It's obvious the S-Ten is the more comfortable of the two (Tracer 900), but heavier and not as fast due to the weight of the Ten. The Ten really needs to go to weight loss classes. As for myself, don't think I've ever pulled a wheelie on my Africa Twin other than long long ago when I rode trails on small dirt bikes. Here in Ontario, Canada a wheelie will cost you about $2,000 in fines, loss of licence for 7 days, and immediate tow- away from the roadside.
Ifvyou are caught doing a wheelie or 50 km over the posted speed limit, you might just as well rollit on and get the hell out of there and go and hide somewhere. Generally speaking, police won't pursue or chase a motorcyclist.
Ride safely and ALWAYS wear your gear.
Thanks again for the info, just hope I made the right decision buying the Ten vs. the Tracer GT.

I think the Tracer GOOGT is not as roomy as the tenere.
Tenere is sneaky fast. The triple is just fast. Whatever floats your boat.
If you had an AT, the tenere is a better fit as you can go on gravel.
Tenere is built like a tank, and holds up as such. No weight loss to be had.

The rozzers call it Stunting here, and it's a court appearance. They pretty much throw the book at you.
Never been caught doing wheelies in town, but I reserve it to early mornings, and deserted roads.
I practice my wheelies off road, where you actually need them.

I have zero need to wheelie on the street. Off road is a different story. Getting the front wheel up and over ledges, ruts, rocks, washes, is very nice. EE9B7518-9926-4001-BE75-9C8E6B743AA0.jpeg

I give you five stars!!!! Great video..
Waaaay beyond my skill level. I'll do some gravel roads, but no trails. I turn 69 in June, and just do not have the strenght that I used to have. I'm sure the Ten will move when you tell it to. The Africa Twin is a great bike, chain and all. I rode lots of gravel but no trails just highways. It will cruize all dayvat 100 MPH or 162 KPH if you tell it to.
The Ten has good wind protection. I hope the stock windscreen will be adequate for my 5 foot 8 height.
I can almost flat foot on the Ten, whereas I had a lower seat on my Africa Twin, then I could almost flat foot.
Thanks again

Does Alta have a road side tow seizure law for wheelies and fast riding (50+) over limit?? Ontario does.

No. BC does. Anything over 40, and you're walking home, and back to court

So, will the Mounties pursue a bike?
I know in Ontario the O.P.P have a no chase policy for motorcycles unless one has committed a crime as well as excessive speed. Can't say what city and the Regional police departments do.

You go to the slammer in Louisiana for 50 over the limit. They charge you with everything they can think of. You get to look at your bike thru a fence when you get out.

Errrmmm...I ran from the cops once when I was 19. Those days are long gone.
I wouldn't dare to find out.
Oddly enough, I always get tagged driving my car or truck. Rarely get tickets on the bikes.

50 MILES over is stupid fast...we're talking metric...40km/h over in BC is an automatic tow.

I've haven't run from them either, but one day after being held up in traffic I gassed it and wouldn't you know it, the second car I met was a bear. I was doing about a buck thirty in an 80 (all KMs) so I laid on it briefly and since I was familiar with the area I exited on the next county road and burned it to a quiet spot took off my hi-viz vest and rode into town and behaved myself for the rest of the day.
Don't recommend it though. Don't make it a habit.

I really like hearing about high milage bikes. Seems like so many people treat them like art work and never ride them. I always want to find out how good the manufacturer is and ride the wheels off it. 200k on my fz1 and still going strong.

Yup, I'm with you on that. Buy it ride it and keep riding it, and then buy a new one.

Well. I got pulled over 2 days after I bought the bike. Was going 65 in a 55 (mph). Given a warning. A week later got nailed again this time was doing 75 in a 55. Didn’t luck out this time. 1st ticket in years. It did get me to slow down, some.

I liked the Yam triple engine, but the ergonomics just locked me into one position, which had me aching to move after about 15 minutes.
.
As for speed, in Virginia you go straight to jail charged with Reckless Operation for 20+ mph in excess OR anytime over 80 mph. Glad we still have Wild Wonderful West Virginia.
