New shoes, now she wants to lean.

So I installed new shoes today, Shinko 705s. After almost 8k with the battlewings. The bike seems to want to turn and lean into any curve now. I remember watching F9s review on the Super and he said it wants to lean into curves. I certainly didn’t see it. I always felt like I had to push it down into a curve. Now with these Shinkos, it wants to go without any assistance. Can anybody confirm this? I’ve never had a bike that wants to lean into curves like the Super with Shinkos.

This is my first set of them as I am in West Texas now and take this off the beaten path a lot more. Most every review seems good on them and they’re cheap. Hell, I’m cheap so that’s good! I’m sure these get beaten to death in discussion, but all I seen was mileage or traction comments.

Lastly, it kinda threw me for a loop with the front, it seems backwards but the rotation arrow is in the right direction. And a search confirmed it’s right.

Whenever I put new tyres on, she falls into corners.
Pirelli Scorpion Trail II's, Bridgestone Battlewings, Mitas E10's, Michelin, Metzeler Tourance, all the same.
In fact, I have to stop myself from not pushing her to far.
But it does not last long. Maybe 2,000km or so, until the tyres squares off a bit.

. . . . I remember watching F9s review on the Super and he said it wants to lean into curves. . . .
I'm suspecting that previous tires were squared off. As the gentleman below suggests. Because she did fine in the curves when I was running the Battlewings. I also noticed that she likes to be downshifted at a lower rpm to prevent wheel lock-up/slide. I never noticed how much the Shinkos resembled the Dunlop Mission Trails.

I try to do as much acceleration while I'm leaned over. Trying to use the softer compound to reduce squaring off.

I get that sensation (neutral handling) whenever I replace old flat-centered tires with new ones. It’s been the same on all my bikes.

My last bike was a BMW K1200RS. It never wanted to turn, even with new tires. I had to kiss my wrist for that to happen. The best it ever turned was with the Michelin Road 5.
The S10 turns like a dream compared to the Flying Brick, even with squared tires.

I’m only asking the question because of THESE tires. The battles never acted like this, even brand new. The Shinkos do act well off road and I feel they were a good purchase. I’ve worn out and replaced tires on everything from big heavy Harleys, to Sport bikes and dual sports. These tires seem extreme to me in the wanting to tip/turn.
There is a DRASTIC difference between the new Shinkos and new Battles. Has anybody noticed other 60-70 off on road to off road tires that don’t want to lean so much. Just looking for knowledge is all.

I’ll agree it turns like a dream. But even my 800 lb Harley did that. This beast REALLY wants to turn now! Much more than the Battles.

I now have A41s on mine. I thought they felt like the OE 'wings. But, the lack of chicken strips on the A41s, tells me they are much better; and I'm just riding around town. That being said, I never had any issues with the OEs. They allowed the Tenere to do her impression of a sport bike. I've never used the Shinkos, so I can't comment. But, if they're reacting that much quicker, the only thing that makes sense to me is inflation pressure. Maybe the 'wings were underinflated? Because, the manners you describe for the Shinkos, are how Bridgestones felt to me. Either way, if you're diggin' the way she's handling. . . . enjoy.

I'll more or less say the same as the other guys, replace tires, the motorcycle always falls into corners on new tires, then gradually that sensation goes away. If you don't like it, just keep riding as the tires will quit doing it soon. Most like it. The wear on new tires goes gradually, and you don't notice the fact every mile it takes a little more effort to turn, then after the tires are worn, get new ones, and Whoa Nelly! Fall into corners, and you don't believe it ever did that last set of tires. Run the set out, repeat, repeat, My experience at least after 50 years of riding, but some tires do show off this more than others, but all eventually go back to normal feeling as the tread wears flatter and flatter.

Could have been pressure, I used them from as low as 15 or so riding to get air after dirt all the way to 40+. They just seemed heavy to me, no matter what. Im new to Shinkos and have nothing to gauge them by. We will see how they act over time.

Different tires are shaped differently, and of course that shape can change depending on the what pressure you are running. Mitas actually made some comments on here about the different profile between the E-07 (original), and the plus version. More rounded, and she will go over easier. I know on some tires you actually can get startled first time you get into a curve and it wants to go over a lot more than you wanted it to.

She'll drag pegs just fine with shinko's.

I went from Metzler Tourance to the Shinko 804/805 combo , tires also seemed to turn in quickly at first but as I put miles on them that new tire feeling goes away.

As Helimark mentioned every tire has a slightly different profile despite them being listed as the same size.

What you are experiencing is completely normal for 705's. I made the same change as you from the Battlewings to 705's and it took a bit to get used to the falling into a corner feeling. It will take a few weeks to get accustomed to the feeling but you will adapt your turn in in a short period of time.

705's have worked good for me for the last year and even with a bit more off road riding this year they have served me well. I need another rear soon and most likely will spoon on another. There are much better dirt tires and much better street tires, but hard to beat the 705's value for money.
