I was there in the late '80s for A school. I had my 550 Seca, and loved going into the mountains up near Julian, and down to Borrego Springs. San Diego weather is my favorite. Out weather isn't that.

Yea I rode one and it felt amazing, but yes MUCH taller then the st. Yeah i don't like the Russell it's super ugly.
You want function or beauty...
Personally I never look at my seat when I ride... butt, my bum is screaming at me if the seat is wrong and that ruins the day. This is one place where function over form wins hands down. If someone else thinks my bike is ugly so what... those people usually put less than 1000 miles on a year.

5th generation Californio (A Breen is one of my ancestors).....I left in 88 and have ZERO interest in moving back.

Lots of cool things about the state. Where else can you ski and surf the same day? SCUBA dive and backpack at 10000 ft? Get stupid on Ortega Hwy? The list goes on....my problem is it is no longer where my family lived and I grew up.

The statement "you can never go back" is so true

I did the squid in Cali for a year and a half 65-66 (San Diego, China Lake, San Diego and then TI). After that, I got stuck on a rock called Oahu for 2.5 years. Wife used to tell people I spent the Viet Nam War in Hawaii, but I told them not to worry because no sacrifice was too great for my country.

To this day I don't know what happen, Me and my buddy where on the same bike he broke almost every bone on the left side of his body and I never seen or talked to him after that I have no idea where he went. I was in a coma for 10 days. Tha Navy never told my parents what happen I called them a month later and told them.

I know TJ (Tijuanna), and PI (Philippine Islands), but I don't know TI. Beer and bikes never mix well.

I was stuck on the fort fisher for 4 years....the worst part was being in the hole for the whole stretch. We were based out of Diego but dry docked in Frisco for 6 months at hunters point it was a living hell. Our bus had to have gages over the windows because the locals would chuck rocks at it when we left that base. When I would ride my motorcycle off base I would haul ass because it was so dangerous. When I was in there was no (thank you for your service) The cali's hated us squids. In fact I never was thanked for my service until around 2004. I did my time 78-82

I was in from '85-'91. At that time, everybody was basically apathetic towards the military. Except for Florida. Florida loved us. I guess compared to the Spring Breakers that would tear shit up, and then go back home, we were downright tame. They'd come down to the pier and we'd give them a tour of the sub. Then they would treat us to lunch/dinner.

Yeah, it seemed to take the Gulf War for everybody to get on the military bandwagon. Unfortunately, the pendulum seems to be starting the swing back the other way now.

Yeah it is weird, in 79 on our westpac we were loved around the world and hated in America now we are hated around the world and I feel the civilians have a fake respect for the military I think it is all virtue signaling because it is the in thing to do. I hold a lot of resentment how we were treated in California.....At least we now have drag queens doing the recruiting.......what could possibly go wrong. I'm glad when I was in it was just men, none of this politically correct bullshit or having to deal with women on the boat. Hell, when I was in we had one dude tell the old man he was gay and they helivaced off the boat the next day...They didn't play that shit when I was in

I don't like guessing about whether a person has a taco or a hotdog, and I'm not going to ask your preferred pronouns, but everybody has the right to their thing. Where I get mad is when I don't actively support them and tell them how great they are, I'm considered the bad guy. Which is quite hypocritical.

I'd normally say that we need to get this thread back on topic, but this is a dead thread. The OP has taken a sabbatical.

Yup! it is that .005% of the population we have to cater to. I'm an old fart so I don't give a shit if I offend someone or not. I will not comply.

SF was a little better by 83 to 88. No rocks... but their attitude was we were 3rd class citizens. Loved the state for its beauty and riding. It's a mess now and wouldn't venture into any of the cities.

Hunters point was very low poverish and they hated white people with a passion it was just that initial run through the gauntlet right out of the gate from the base. Me and my 2 buddies had to step over a dead body on the sidewalk in down town SF from a homeless dude who OD'ed we went up and told a cop and they couldn't care less. That entire state has been ruined
