Hi there smalls78, I highly suggest the Helibar risers and Barkbuster combo. It completely transforms the ergo's of the bike. Also order up 5 of the Yamaha PN 22W-24741-00-00 seat bumpers. It will get rid of the forward slope of the seat in high and low position.

I too was looking at the BMW GS's but the price and cost of ownership is insane. And god help you if you even question the price or reliability of those bikes on a BMW forum. I was actually banned permanently from the ADVRider GS forums for suggesting a teardown to repair a motor. It got really ugly to the point I was personally "cyber attacked", called names and ultimately banned.

The hard facts are: BMW GS's are very popular, very high repair costs after warranty, and the parts are 3 to 5 times the cost of a Super Tenere. This is not a formed opinion.

I just got my ST a few months back and even when outfitted, it comes in at over 10,000.00 less than a bone stock GS without the add ons. FWIW you will be hard pressed to get out of a BMW dealership for under 25,000.00 for a basic GS. I'm very happy with my bike. This is the biggest baddest bike I have ever owned.

I realized one important fact from the first time I clicked it into gear and pulled out of the dealership driveway. This is a 600lb+ bike. All my dreams of taking this bike on my normal single track trails quickly vanished. This is a great touring bike and will be used for nothing more than dirt service roads. I actually have a set of knobbies ready to go on. But I'm going to get used to the handling and weight of the bike before venturing in the dirt.

Time to move on and stop the incessant whining about a situation you created.

For anyone interested here is one of the threads from ADVrider. The thread and the fist post that Ballistic created was a doozy.

https://advrider.com/index.php?threads/how-do-you-afford-these-bikes.1283294/

Here is one of his quotes later in the thread. Shocking that someone might take offense to it...

I truly believe that some of these guys just don't have good enough comprehension skills to understand the honest straight forward thread I started. I, in no way, made any disparaging comments on owning a BMW or the brand. I was simply asking how someone can afford it."

My response was not supposed to be inflammatory. Just my thoughts on researching and test riding, and it points to the Super Tenere. I’m pretty unbiased.

Fantastic forum, agreed. Not entirely sure the previous 2 posts, but I took the positive from it. I researched a good adv bike and came to grips the S10 is best for me. Thanks to all for thier input. Look forward to sharing my advs with ya! Ride safe everyone.

If you opt for the used 2015, rather than the NOS 2017, it's probably worth getting the dealer to check the balance of the throttle bodies if there is discernible vibration through the bars.

Whatever, enjoy the new ride.

Sir, a few posts warning others of getting banned is hardly whining. Your post shows very poor taste and lack of decent character. Attempting to discredit me on a public forum with a thread of your choosing is not cool at all.

In the future please PM me like a gentleman if you don’t like something that may offend you.

Sorry about that guys. Did not mean to get this thread off track.

Enjoy the Super Tenere. They are fantastic all around bikes.

I strongly suggest getting the ECU reflashed along with a slip on. In stock form the Tenere is restricted in the first 3 gears. A reflash really wakes it up and smooths it out as well. AC on this forum does a great job at a very reasonable price. It is the best single upgrade you can do.

I have the Yoshimura slip on. I'm going to wait a while before thinking of a re-flash. This darn bike runs so good right now. The low RPM power is nothing short of amazing. I've only had this bike less than 2 months and the clutch and throttle work really well all the way to walking pace. I'm still struggling to do a track stand on it though. My clutch lever adjustment is set to disengage right off the bar.

The overall power through the RPM range seems to be more than smooth enough. Of course I'm still breaking it in pretty mellow.

IMO, I think the Ergo's are the best single upgrade you can make to any bike. For me it was the Helibars, IMS ADV 2 foot pegs, ASV levers, large stainless brake pedal, and Wunderlich shifter (adjusted all the way forward).

I did find that those IMS pegs are so big that you can really bend up the peg bracket and foot peg pin in a tip over. For now it's something I'm willing to live with. This is the most comfortable bike I have ever swung a leg over.

I have just returned to S10 ownership after being seduced by the extra power of the 2017 Tiger Explorer, I traded my 2015 ES in on one.

I did 16,500 Km's on the Trumpy before pinning for another S10, so the Trumpy was sold (only had it 8 months) and I am back on a S10 and very happy.

I have owned all the big Adventure bikes, and am now settled on what I believe is the best combination of fit, reliability, comfort, fuel range.

Enjoy your new bike.

Here is where I am with a purchase tomorrow or Tuesday. Strong opinions wanted. These are the bikes I've narrowed down to and the final price I will pay out of pocket having all the farkles I personally desire and everything all sorted for my adv liking. These are not the asking prices, just my personal final cost.

2015
8k miles
$11,445

2015 ES
14k miles
$11,640 + I will have to pay fly and ride $$

2016 ES
20k miles
$10,115

The 2016 ES is by far the best deal for the least amount of money out of my pocket and the easiest to purchase too. All bikes have been single owners, yet the 2016 ES seems to have been very well tended to after speaking with the owner. But the other owners seem great folks too!

All this said, my only real questions to myself are:
1) Do I really need or care about ES
2) Is 20k miles alot? Would I rather a bike with 8k miles, allowing those 12k more miles I would get to ride on it myself?

Of those mentioned, I’d go with the 2016; the prices on the others are too high. 20,000 miles is just broken in. I have over 80,000 Tenere miles on the two of them that I have had, with total reliability. Some forum members have over 150,000 miles on theirs with no significant issues. The bike is hard to kill.

Here is a video of Nick Sanders bike (2012) after doing a RTW and I believe 60K miles, to give you an idea on longevity.

The ES thing is TOTALLY a personal preference thing. Personally, I prefer it. I agree with the others, 12k miles isn't going to make a difference in the overall life of the bike. (unless they were stupid hard miles.)
