Hi,

my other bike is a Harley Fat Bob, and I spent years turning that heap of iron into a motorcycle, not even a bad one, for what it does. Lots of riding with the girlfriend on the back seat, the high likelihood of bad roads near beautiful landscapes, and my aging spine made me long for something with a proper suspension. Unsurprisingly, after a test ride I fell in love with the Super 10, and on Friday I'll pick it up from the dealer.

I'm hoping to find some inspiration here, and answers to the hard questions. Which panniers? Which crash bars? Why is this the best bike ever? Feed my confirmation bias!

Welcome from Texas. As far as panniers, and crash bars....that will depend on your individual wants/needs. As far as it being the best bike ever....that too will depend on your wants/needs. BUT, if you WANT a bike to do everything well....and, you NEED it do it every day without complaining, or worrying about it breaking down....and you don't want to spend and arm/leg....the Tenere it is. The test ride let you feel the comfort. After you have it awhile, and find a twisty road....you'll realize that it is a sport bike in disguise. Almost all of my riding has been with sport touring bikes. I liked their versatility. The Tenere is MY favorite bike....EVER.

Welcome. The variety of options is plentiful. It all depends on you want the bike to do. So many options.

Welcome aboard. The bike is great for the mix of roads and cobbles in Europe.

"Which panniers? Which crash bars? Why is this the best bike ever?"

With the bike having been in production for 10 years, these questions have been answered SO many times that we actually have sections of the forum for each.

The search engine here works well, and Google searches work even better. For example, put the following into a Google search: site:yamahasupertenere.com best crash bars

Welcome from Kansas. You will find the rabbit hole goes deep for this bike on accessories. I do like Alt rider and tour tech products. That's what the previous owner installed on my bike. Seems to be very well made.

As for why I chose the tenere. For me it was based on reviews, this form and Yamaha's reliability.

I envy you living in the country where some of the greatest beers come from.
Enjoy the adventure and ride safe.

Picked her up from the dealer today. When I rode home, I realized what drew me to this bike. It feels sophisticated. Everything has a silent and reassuring quailty. The control buttons feel like my best mechanical keyboard: solid with great feedback. It's not rowdy like the Harley. Adult, it a way. I love it. Ordered SW Motech crash bars today. Tomorrow, I'll put on the backrest and rack I got from a company in Utah, delivered within 4 days. And then I'll go for a ride.

Hello and welcome from South Dakota, USA. I started riding again a few years ago - bought a Sportster to relearn. Loved the bike, hated the suspension. Bought my S10 a year ago and am living happily ever after. Mine came with the Happy Trails panniers, V-Stream windshield and a custom comfort seat. I bought the AltRider crash bars, have a cheap scooter trunk for the back recently added the SlipStream deflectors made in the UK. I love the bike and my body loves the suspension :)

Thank y'all :) I have farkled already. SW Motech crash bars, Dynamic Motorcycle Accessories backrest/luggage rack. Coming up: fixture for the smartphone already ordered. I'll probably add Givi (Bauletti) pannier racks and some soft panniers. Still unsure about the skid plate. And I wonder whether I need an ECU flash. Also I need a new helmet and then tackle the windscreen situation. Waaaah ...

Welcome along. An S10 must be a rare sight in Munchen.

BTW, try some winglets before you mess with the screen or change your helmet. They cut down any stray up-draught that otherwise creates turbulence.

My dealer, who incidentally also sells BMW, frankly told me that they are a hard sell. He offered a good discount on a new S10 which makes a stripper GS 1250 50% more expensive. It might be the better bike in some regards, but is it 50% better? My wallet said no.

Thanks for the tip about the winglets, I'll give it a shot!

Welcome from Dublin, where Guinness stout comes from.

A reflash does improve a Gen1 bike.

It is still unclear whether it makes much of a difference to a Gen II like yours though.

The Gen II is a really good, roomy and very reliable bike in stock form.
