Hello Tenere Team !

Ive been using Mobil-1 filters for 20+ years. I typically use the M1-108 (short) and M1-110 (long) that fit the Tenere and many other vehicles...... Because of my skid plate I use the M1-108 and have for 10-11 years. Recently I bought a 108 and it was about 5/16" to long.... What the heck? I take it back to the store with my old 108. The new 108 is about 5/16" longer than the old 108... The new 108 is virtually the same size as the old 110..... the new 110 is about 5/16" longer than the old 110....

So, if you use Mobil-1 filters, make sure you have the room with your skid plate for the new 108 / 110 filter... Ive tried to get any answers and have failed, I guess they now just make a bigger filter. In my case it wont fit and have had to temporarily use the K&N. I would like to use the Amsoil filter.

With this topic brought up, if anyone knows the whole (brand name) list of filters with (part numbers) that fit our bike, will you please post this list? I tried to search and did not find this list.

Thanks

Of course, that list depends on the individual manufacturers not changing the size of their filter(s) too. It is odd that they're giving more filter. Nowadays everything is shrinking except the prices.

@~TABASCO~ , you mentioned that you'd like to run the Amsoil filter. I run one; do you need to know its length to make sure it fits with your skid plate? I can measure it if you need that info.

Maybe we can add the Amsoil to the list. Not sure what the "EA" on the WIX might be?

Appreciate your putting up the very post I was going to grab.

For all who may not have been here, we've encountered this issue before where without changing the part number, the lengths changed or the concave portion became convex (sticking out) and the filters didn't seal. Check when opening the box and then start the engine before re-mounting the skid plate!

I tan into this problem a couple years ago. The newer M1018A is too long to fit behind the Ravetech skid plate on my bike. I’ve switched to the Fram 6017A for now.

So....am I a dumbass for running OEM Yamaha filters? ACD skid plate here and never had fitment issues so I just stuck with what works.
Nothing wrong with them, no idea how they compare price wise. Since I change the filter every oil change, I tend to go with the cheapest I can find. Auto parts stores are much closer than any Yamaha dealer. I usually order online but prices on the Mahle are double what they used to be. My last FRAM order got delayed for some reason.

I never price shopped either, so not sure what market rate for other brands are. I can typically find a 2 pack of OEM's on Amazon for @ $25.

Let me throw this bit of info for people that specifically have “Auto-Zone” in there town.

We have an Auto-Zone in our town and they will price match virtually anything from anyone. Yesterday the Mobil-1 filter for a different bike was $14.99 on the shelf. I pulled up on my phone someone running some nutty sale for $5.75. They sold it to me for that. I picked up some Mobil-1 T4 motorcycle synthetic oil and it was like $14-15 a quart, but I found it online for 9 and they price matched. The K&N oil filter on there shelf was $17 bucks and I found it online for$6.99, they price matched.
As I was talking to the folks they said most people don’t know we price match. He said to me as a general statement about people to price match “all you need to do is be nice, and show us the online price, we will price match”.
I stood there and made them laugh and we cracked a few jokes and I saved a ridiculous amount of money just for pulling up a few online prices and being what the kids say “cool”…. LOL
I’m not sure if this is a nation wide deal but at our place they always do it and are really helpful and nice about it. I typically know what I want and do the homework before I go inside to make it go quicker. I screen shot the items and the price and show them when I’m online. No big deal.

Try it one day and save a TON !

(Side note) after reading a few of these post on this tread. I would suggest a few of you pull up some You-Tube videos of oil filters (tear down / what is on the inside) and choose wisely. Unless your selling your bike next month.

If anyone has a line on the AmsOil filter, I would like to get some of those. They are almost impossible to find or buy here in my area.

The new Yamaha filters are longer too. I guess the same manufacturer must make several of the filters and just put different names on them. that happens with a lot of items. the new Yamaha filters are causing me some issues with the guard. I do know if something hits it the oil filter is gone with it. I have crushed the other oil filters before and they had some clearance.

Have used the yamaha 5hg-13440-61 last two oil changes, which is the part nr from the yamaha '20 S10 partslist.
Length 2.625" or 66.7mm. This filter is used in a large variety of yamaha motorcycles and readily available at a reasonable price.

Hello My Friends, I am a retired mining engineer. That said there is no higher standard than mine duty when it comes to a wide range of parts and equipment, it is a brutal environment for motors and machinery, and men. We sent samples of our oil from "Every piece of equipment" monthly to be lab analyzed. At one point I had my lubrications engineer cut open every brand of oil filter relevant to our needs. There is a wide range of construction quality between the brands. We found the OEM filters to always be on the top end of internal construction and filtration performance. Cost was a different issue as the OEM were always at the high end. All that said you can't go wrong with Wix/Napa gold, Mobile One, Baldwin, K&N and Purolator Gold. What Ever you do "DO NOT" use Fram filters. They are total garbage internally, from the check valves to the paper filter media. There is a great You Tube site called Bob the Oil Guy. He does great tests that laymen can relate to, he is independent so no influence from the manufacturing world. I also believe the Synthetic oils are beyond superior in performance, worth every penny you pay. Again information learned from the mines. As always this is just my opinion gleaned from my personal experience. Thanks for all the great information you-all share. Leilow

Out of idle curiosity, did you look at any of the Donaldson filters? Fyi, they are also the “OEM” maker for CAT and Deere

I personally have not... I probably would if I could find them and actually get them. I would like to use an AMSoil but they are really hard to find and get. I guess my next will be the WIX. I want a high quality filter that is short like the old Mobil 108 filter. The strange thing is, on the AMSoil web site, when you dial in our bike, it comes back with the AMSoil appropriate filter, and the WIX filter on the same page, same site............ I can get the WIX pretty easy.
