Hi , New guy here from central Ct. looking for a S10 . I have an opportunity to buy a new 2013 white one for $10k delivered . Should I do it or should I look around for a Gen2 for the same money ? Any advice is appreciated ..

For that kind of money I'd go 2nd gen. You did not indicate miles, condition, or farkles though. Both are good bikes, Gen 1 needs certain things done for reliability over time (CCT, clutch basket). Gen 2 gets you cruise, and potentially ES, heated grips. You can frequently find used ones with extended warranty = "YES" (Not that you are likely to need it.)

new bike with warranty , if you like it , do what makes you happy.... nothing wrong with gen 1 , it is still a great bike.... I wouldn't trade my gen 1 for a gen 2 ......

+1...Love my 2013 as well...It's setup for me, runs awesome, rock solid and no plans to upgrade for a few years yet. When I do, guess what it'll be? Another Tenere for sure.

I am from CT also, the south eastern part. I would get the gen 2 super tenere. The gen 2 has none of the gen 1 bugs plus it has some extra goodies like LED turn signals and a cruise control.

just to be clear.

Gen 1 had the following issues:
-CCT past the 18k mile mark was suspect. Superseded part # for gen 2
-Headlight harness recall. Likely already completed
-fuel pump o-ring recall (pre delivery models, read: 2011/2012 only)
-Clutch basket was never a reliability issue. It was a preference only. I swapped mine out, as I bought it for $50 USD to my door. Superseded part # for gen 2
-The piston and rings were superseded part # for gen 2

Gen 2 pluses, the above parts changed plus:
-CC
-LED blinkers
-ES option

For what it's worth....I always but base model vehicles. I bought an ES for its capabilities/features. But I got an ES for a non-ES price too.

There is nicely farkled 2017 here in the classifieds right now for not much more. Enough said.

Thanks wronglane , I am familiar with all bikes currently available on this site . What I am looking for is the newest bike with the lowest miles I can find in my price range. As far as accessories go. (I’m sorry at 62 I can’t bring myself to use the word “farkle” LoL) If it has some fine If not I prefer to set the bike up to my needs . They say with age comes wisdom . I can’t really comment on that but fortunately with age comes patience. I will take my time and hopefully the right bike will find me. I thank you guys for your help and advice . Gary

Couple other thoughts occured to me. How much do you plan to ride and what is the possibility that you turn around and sell it within a year or two? If you buy new the value will drop significantly as soon as you ride off. The newer the bike and generation, the better it will hold value, and resale is easier. Buying used will lose you much less in depreciation. If you plan on keeping it a long time, less of a concern. Mileage on these means less than the current maintenance status (new tires, time to valve check, etc).

I am selling my 2017 non ES. It's on the for sale board. Just up the road in Mass. 600 miles....a couple extras. In case you missed it.
