Hello Everyone, I've been lurking this forum for several months. A long time rider (started at age 11 on a Honda QA50, now 47 year later I'm riding an 04' Kawasaki Vulcan Meanstreak 1600). I'm interested in exploring adventure riding, to rekindle my passion, and the Super Tenere has my vote. Thank you for all the insightful post on this forum.

Welcome from Texas. If you're not ready to buy one....don't ride one....you will be assimilated....resistance is futile.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm with Mak10, what were you hoping for?

Buy a bike and ride. No point waiting for the heavier model.

Thanks for all your hello's. I've enjoyed reading this forum and your posts. My delay in responding is because the first reply got me thinking about what I'm wanting from a new model and the reason for my delay in purchasing a Super Tenere. The answer is simply, I want nothing more than the current bike offers. All my conclusions about the bike are from reading forum posts, watching videos and handling the bike in a showroom (but have never driven one).

As a goal, I want to explore long distance adventure riding, from the starting point of a biker that's been riding cruisers/street bikes (and dirt as a boy) for a long time. However, I will not be in a place in my life to begin adventure riding for at least another year and, in that time, Yamaha might release gen III. I'd like to see what they offer on the refresh... but, a local dealer has a great price on a 2019es and I am seriously considering buying the bike to begin learning it's characteristics and other aspects of adventure riding.

Go for it ;)
yea find the color you like and get it... we don't live forever
I took your advice, found a color and went for it. Actually, it was the ridiculously low price that choose the color, not me. Yesterday afternoon I purchased a new 2018 ES from Platinum Powersports located North of Grand Rapids, Michigan (they have a 2019 priced to sell if anyone is interested). My plan was to have a buddy drop me off and I would ride the 250 mile home. Here is the bike:

Riding a bike in early February in Michigan is a gamble with the weather and I kinda lost and at the same time definitely won. As we got within an hour of the dealership, a lake-effect snow squall moved in off Lake Michigan with heavy snows and wind. The temp were 34F so the roads were just wet, no accumulation. I started my ride home at 2pm with the weather unchanged. Here I am suited up and ready for the 250 mile ride.

My plan was to take county roads home so I could work on a proper break-in, but with the adverse weather I thought it best to take the interstate (and attempt to vary my speed/rpm's as much as possible). About an hour out I pulled into Holland Michigan for gas and to check the weather radar. I had noticed a car following me the last 20 miles or so and when I stopped in Holland, the car followed me. The driver introduced himself as Mike (which is also my name) and said he was a field manager for the Michigan highway department and he was following me to make sure I didn't get in trouble. He said spotter planes were out flying to determine road conditions because if the temps fell any, the wet interstates would freeze over. He also asked to pray for me (which I took as both a good and bad omen lol).

It must have been a good omen because within 30 mins the snow stopped (not the wind tho) and temps rose to 37F and remained constant for the duration of the ride. As you can imagine, I really enjoyed having heated grips. At 9:30pm I pulled into the garage (7.5 hours after I started). What a great maiden voyage for my S10. My daughter said it was good training for my Alaska trip next summer. I had to agree.
