I knew this day would come, it took a bit, but we got there. :D We had our first real augmentative discussion the other day.

In response, I've created a new board called Debate Room. If a topic is in there, you can feel free to hash it out all you like, moderation will be limited. Please read the sticky topic with the rules for that board before you decide to post there.

I've also filtered the Debate Room topics to a special section on the front page. If anybody is not interested in seeing it and being involved in the debating, simply click the little grey "-" picture in the top right of the header and it'll disappear from your view until you open it up again.

I really want to keep things friendly around here, since I personally prefer a forum where we can all talk to each other without fear of being jabbed for some particular reason, but conflicts do happen, and this is my solution. If a topic gets heated it goes to the Debate Room, simple as that. If anybody wants to discuss topics that you know are going to end up there eventually anyway (politics, religion) you may as well just start your topic there.

If anybody has any questions fire away.

Venture,

Thanks for this mod to the forum. I witnessed the old ST1100 email list implode over politics of all things. It limped along for awhile but was never the same and even the forum that it morphed into has little or no activity. I hope that we can keep things civil here.

This medium always has it's ups and downs ... it's just the way people perceive things. Try not to take things personally and never assault the person just state, strongly, your opinion and then tell everyone it's just your opinion ... cause at the end of the day ... that's all it is. Communication is what we as a species as suppossed to excel at ... do we though ... really. I'm going to communicate with some others in a few days time on behalf of our government ... now that is gonna get emotive >:D

Well, it really wasn't much of a tussle, but I thought it was enough of an indicator that I needed to make a policy change. I think the Debate Room is a good solution, since I have no desire to lock posts or censor, so this way they can just be moved there to play out how they will, and folks who don't want to be involved can choose to just ignore that board.

I like the idea...I left another MC site when folks continued to bring religion into their replies, especially as it was not my religion.

I find everyone gets along discussing religion and politics, as long as they all share the same opinions and beliefs.
