Need Help in defining the Modifications Database!

One of the changes I deployed this past weekend is a database tool that will let us store whatever kind of information we want. The initial thought which prompted me to build this is to start a list of modifications that are available for the S10, so that users can easily find what is available without searching all across the internet.

Now, with that said, I need some user input as to what information needs to be captured.

I'm thinking:

Modification Type (crash bar, handle bar, pannier, etc)
Manufacturer
Manufacturer Part Number
OEM part number (if applicable - this database could be used for replacement aftermarket parts as well)
Price
????? What else?

The database allows entry of comments for each record, as well as a simple rating system for each record. None of you can see this thing yet since I still have it hidden until we've defined the initial layout.

I'm looking for other uses of this as well. One idea I had was a list of rider events. Not just ones that concern this small forum, but any event that anybody knows about could easily be listed and searched for. I'm sure we'll think of more uses as time goes by.

For now, I need some input!

Links to installat6ion reports if available.

I find them very useful on sites like VSRI and Troopers etc.
Same product but some people come up with some cool mods or tweaks as they bump up against problems or supply way better pictures than the Manufacturer.

GIVI comes to mind. The online install stories and pics I found were WAY better than the GIVI bars manual.

Secondly "Country availability and price" Think Global.

Eg XT1200z "Whole bike Assy" Available Holland, UK, Australia, South Africa etc. Unavailable USA, CANADA - Pre-order only. ;)

Cheers
Graham

Gotta say...i wouldnt dive too much into price. I would just put the OEM price. With the intarweebs nowadays, just google "SW motech bars Tenere price" and bam, ya got 10 hits, all with different prices.

Agree with Graham, installation videos are the best, but I think we will start to see more and more of this in the very near future (revzilla, twisted throttle, sportbiketrackgear, etc)

Yeah, I got pretty anal about the nuts and bolts of it. Now all it needs is some data.

Holy shit, it works! Nice job actually using the thing!

I fixed your error...by creating a new "Additional Description" field and putting the extended info in it.

It looks like I'm going to have to expand the search and filtering capabilities now...

Not hard at all to take of.

Also, I extended the size of the "MFR Description" field since you were obviously running out of room.

We got 'er dialed-in now!

Maybe a link to external or internal reviews, photos, or maybe .pdf files covering installations.

Links can be added via the "Additional Links" field. Just post any additional info in the comments section and it'll get incorporated eventually.

Photos and other media are on the way, I'm building the functionality in the next revision.

links to Youtube on the DIY applications.

It's one of the first sites I go to to search a "how do ya do that"??

whether it's cleaning and field stripping a rifle or changing final drive fluid - it's the best at sorting out
the "how to's"
