LOL Aviation Navigate Communicate pre- dates the innertoobs by at least 60 years and probably goes back to WW2. This photo is from around 1969 when my flight instructor kept beating it into me. Pretty sure it was in the basic private pilot handbook published by the FAA then before Jeppesen, King, or any of the other training courses began.

Always Fly the Aircraft
Maintain Situational Awareness
Head on a Swivel

I believe I’m alive today because of them.

I watched a lady turn left in front of a huge bright purple dump truck. I was maybe 40 yards behind her in a car. I remember yelling no as I watched her turn. The dump truck ended up on its side in the ditch. She survived.

This thread has helped me understand why you could miss a big purple dump truck if you can't see a fire engine with lights and siren. When I was young my mom always told me I was a better driver when I started riding motorcycles. I had more of the, "Everybody is out to kill me", mentality.
