2nd Pass...Pic size was too large on the first post attempt, and lost all the text

Yamaha is at Arizona Bike Week for demo rides; I went this morning and scored the 9:45 ride. My current bike is an 08 FJR, so my comparisons will be to that bike.

I was checking out the seat just before the rider meeting, and I wasn't able to tell if it was in the low or high position. When I was on the bike, I could flatfoot on one side, with the other foot up on my toes, so I think it was in the high position. For the demo ride, I was in TC 1 (I didn't remember how to change it), and Sport Mode. The clutch engagement point was deeper in the lever travel than the FJR, it took me a few stoplights to be able to finesse it in. The sport bikes were in the front part of the group, so leaving the stops took a bit more throttle than I would normally use; the bike is quick but it doesn't have the effortlessly smooth roll on power of the FJR. The sound of the parallel twin was much different from the inline four; it was much busier, and reminded me of when I first bought my YFZ-450.

The seat has a bit more give, while still feeling supportive. I think this will be a more comfortable long distance mount for me as delivered. The Tenere felt much lighter than the FJR (even though it isn't), and was more confidence inspiring in the corners (there were several corners with gravel on the demo loop). I was pleasantly surprised with the cornering ability (the demo bike was shod with the Bridgestone Battle Wings), and the bike felt very flickable.

Overall, I'm very happy with my choice in this bike. I feel it will complement the FJR nicely, and can hardly wait for it to get here!

That looks like one of the US bikes. Did you happen to get the serial number?
Thanks for the rr.

Thanks for the report you lucky dog. :) I only sat on a few without keys.

I will be glad when I can ride mine.

What did you think of the motor pull down low when rolling on the throttle?

Do we have this info in our "how to" section of the forum? If not - we need to add it!!!!

I thought the pull down low was good, but not like a K1000 snap your head back. There is a significant difference between "S" mode and "T" mode. I am riding a DL 650 and thought it pulled much harder than the Vstrom. Maybe 2X as much.

I don't want to threadjack, but I wanted to say that I'm going to do a few more "how-to" writeups for various things. I also purchased upgraded gallery software that will allow you to upload photos directly to a gallery right from within a post - it's pretty slick. I need to get a few things installed first though for that to work. But yes, Colorider, you're correct, this needs to be put in the "how-to" section.

I'm heading back to the show this morning, am thinking about signing up for another ride ;D

@Combo, I was watching the group in front of me pull away faster than I expected, like i said the roll on power is nothing like the FJR (which is deceptively fast), but I didn't feel like it was lacking for the bike's intended use. The bike is plenty quick, and I think the 6 speed gearbox was the right choice.

@ japako, It was a Euro bike with the US black panels (it had the immobiliser and the flash to pass button). I did not look for the serial number.

@pgsqac, As Venture mentioned, I uploaded the pics directly in the thread. My first pass, I made the mistake of not noticing the size of my pics, which caused all my text to disappear when it errored out. Once I reduced the pic size, i was easily able to add them in the "Additional Options" area below the posting window.

@Wasp, thanks for the clarification on seat height. I was very comfortable with the way I was able to touch and balance the bike.

Curious, what is your inseam length? I wear 32 inch pants, and can barely flatfoot a DL650.

Do we know for sure that the US spec bikes will NOT have these two items as well?

Welcome to the board SQ1... I have a true 30" inseam and with the seat in the low position, I could flat foot on one side and most of the other foot on the ground. I was of course leaning the bike a little. I never felt uncomfortable at stops, and after awhile, never noticed.

I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam.

Couple of other things I noticed, which are mostly nitpicks at this point:

I think I may be looking at handlebars with a higher bend. They felt fine seated, but were a touch short for me when standing. I will definitely be rotating the clutch and brake levers down more to help with this as well.
The instrument cluster was a it busy, will take me some time to adjust to it.
I missed the gear indicator that I have on my FJR. I may be looking at an after market solution.

Again, these are minor quibbles, overall Yamaha has a great package with this bike, and should sell as many as they can make!

I've thought of this as well. it's amazing how much you miss something so minor when you get used to it (as the one on the FJR).

Healtech supposedly has one already. I have this on my ST1300 and really like it. Might need one for the S10..

Thanks for the replies. I am 5'10", and as long as the S10 is roughly the same height as my DL650, I should be okay. Waiting for my dealer to have one soon.
