2nd Pass...Pic size was too large on the first post attempt, and lost all the text
Yamaha is at Arizona Bike Week for demo rides; I went this morning and scored the 9:45 ride. My current bike is an 08 FJR, so my comparisons will be to that bike.
I was checking out the seat just before the rider meeting, and I wasn't able to tell if it was in the low or high position. When I was on the bike, I could flatfoot on one side, with the other foot up on my toes, so I think it was in the high position. For the demo ride, I was in TC 1 (I didn't remember how to change it), and Sport Mode. The clutch engagement point was deeper in the lever travel than the FJR, it took me a few stoplights to be able to finesse it in. The sport bikes were in the front part of the group, so leaving the stops took a bit more throttle than I would normally use; the bike is quick but it doesn't have the effortlessly smooth roll on power of the FJR. The sound of the parallel twin was much different from the inline four; it was much busier, and reminded me of when I first bought my YFZ-450.
The seat has a bit more give, while still feeling supportive. I think this will be a more comfortable long distance mount for me as delivered. The Tenere felt much lighter than the FJR (even though it isn't), and was more confidence inspiring in the corners (there were several corners with gravel on the demo loop). I was pleasantly surprised with the cornering ability (the demo bike was shod with the Bridgestone Battle Wings), and the bike felt very flickable.
Overall, I'm very happy with my choice in this bike. I feel it will complement the FJR nicely, and can hardly wait for it to get here!
