I've wanted a Super Tenere for a while, it was time to finally get one. I found a new 2016 ES, picked it up 10 days ago, did the 600 mile service last Saturday. I was hoping to be doing that a couple days earlier, it ended up taking the week to hit 600 miles. I commute through some of the worst traffic in Los Angeles, about 80 miles per day, been doing that for about 20 years. I am coming off a 2007 FZ1 which has a bit over 138K miles on it, my son is riding that now. Before that was a 2003 FZ1 which got totaled in that horrible traffic, it had 97K miles on it. Prior to those was yet another Yamaha. I also have a Husky TE450 dual sport and a Yamaha WR250F in the garage. And a Yamaha quad I should probably get rid of. I race off road in the So Cal desert so that is the primary driver for the interest in the ST.

For now the bike has Cyclops LED headlights, Givi Engine Guards, Givi rack for my old Givi top case (for now) that was on the FZ1, and a couple RAM mounts. A set of Baja Design Squadron lights will hopefully be delivered today, the Skene controller for those was delivered yesterday.

Near future plans; Givi Outback topcase, skid plate and other protection, tires. Leaning towards a Shinko 805 on the back and a Mitas E-07 up front.

That should be it for now, unless something else becomes completely and totally necessary, and if I have any money left. Pic of the new and the old for my avi.

Chris

Took you a while, but welcome to the Tenere porch.

Pull up a chair and rack up those same brutal LA miles on yet another Yamaha.

Welcome. I think the Tenere is a great commuter weapon. Is Vansmack your last name, or what happened to the '03 FZ1? ;)

For the 03 FZ1, a driver going 10mph in the "fast lane" cut over into the 65mph carpool lane because it was going faster. She never saw me and took me out. Three weeks later I was on the 07. It was a tough choice then between another FZ1 or a Buell Ulysses (I was thinking adventure bike back then) but needed the reliability of the Yamaha over a garage floor full of oil stains and feeling of sitting on a dryer full of tennis shoes at stop lights you'd get with a Buell.

Ok, I have to ask, which Yamaha quad? I currently have a YFZ450, which is my primary Glamis ride...

It's an old (2003) Wolverine 350. Full time 4x4 but I installed a Warn front driveshaft disconnect so you can easily switch to 2 wheel drive and back. Definitely not high performance, more so a utility quad. I got it for the wife to putt around on when desert/dune camping so speed was not desired. The guy I got it from originally bought it for the same purpose but his wife did not like the heavy steering with it 4x4 only and he had never heard of the Warn disconnect doohickey.
