Re: MotoJug Hydration System (20% Discount)

Looks like Motorcycle season is upon us as sales for MotoJug are picking up which has got us a little behind on orders. We are still shipping within about 3 days of orders being placed though. Hoping to catch up and be able to do same day shipping within the next week or so. Alot of satisfied customers out there and my wife is having a blast making them.

Here are a few photos. The Hydration tubing goes through the drinking spigot on the Coleman 1 Gallon coolers. The tubing inside goes to the bottom of the cooler and is cut at an angle so it won't suck to the bottom. I have a quick release valve on mine that makes for easy fill ups at gas stations etc so I don't have to take the tuning inside with me. Highly recommend getting one. They are about $10 and well worth it. Also all tubing and straps to secure the system are all to long. We do that on purpose realizing people's needs are different.

Any other questions let me know.

I had the same issue when the forum had its hiccup a couple months back. Check your spam folder. That's where all my forum notifications were going until I unflagged it as spam.

This is an interesting idea...

But I have two questions before I get too interested in it.

1) How would this fare if you ride off road? I imagine it would be destroyed in a crash, but also, would be bounced around all over the place anyway.

2) What do you do with the drinking tube if you don't have a tank bag to attach it to? Having to mess around with routing drinking tubes and attaching them to my body somehow every time I get on and off the bikes reminds me of how annoying it is to attach the controllers on heated gear to yourself in the winter. I kind of feel like the hassle of dealing with the tube would end up outweighing the convenience of not having a bladder on your back.

That said, I am still curious... ice cold water as I ride would be really really nice!

Re: MotoJug Hydration System (20% Discount)

Her "anotherbiker", I use a small cooler with bladder on the rear seat that I also keep my summer cool vest. To control my hose, I keep a magnet either in my tank bag pocket or jacket pocket and badge holder clip on the tube end.
All I do is scoop the dangling hose after fueling and get it close and let the magnet keep it managed.
When I unmount, I don't worry about getting hung up, just reattach as needed.
Oh, and hose isn't long enough to ground out on normal street use.

Magnets... Interesting idea! Though I don't use a tank bag (don't like the things...) I do have a small handlebar bag, so I suppose I could put a magnet in that.

Maybe there's something to this... Bag of gas station ice, plus empty a bottle of water into the cooler in the morning to drink all day. Then pick up a couple of bottles of beer to stick in there for campsite refreshment later.

Your system looks good, and I may purchase one sometime, but I am not getting this:

??? At 60 MPH average speed and assuming the round trip commute is 360 miles, wouldn't that be about 6 hours/day commuting? 5 days a week? Surely that qualifies for some kind of Iron Butt award!

I'd be looking for a job closer to home, or a home closer to job!

Off topic, I know, but I'm just trying to wrap my head around this. :)

Well being a Fireman we don't have the typical 40 hr work week as some jobs. We work 10 24hr shifts per month. I trade my days with other Engineers and try to work 4 on 8 off so it works out well. All 3 of us Engineers at my Fire Station live out of state. I'm actually the closest to the station. The other 2 Engineers live in Boise, Idaho and Houston Texas so my commute is easy other than they fly in and I drive...

I know alot of you think this product is for a problem that does not exist however I challenge anyone to try it out. I offer a 30 day money back guarantee less return shipping on my product. We've sold somewhere close to 200 now and have not had a single return. It's not for everyone but if you are a serious rider that actually puts long distance miles on your bike I have no doubts that you will love the system... It's perfect for Hydration and also for having extra water at camp for cooking and cleaning dishes... Plus it's 100 times easier to clean, fill, refill and keep your beverage of choice cold on a Hot day... Give it a try. It's only $60 with the forum discount. I guarantee it's worth it, try it for 30 days and if you don't like it I'll refund your money back...

Re: MotoJug Hydration System (20% Discount)

I recently got one of these for an LDR ride. Here is a quick review.

Cliff notes: it works. Drinking is good.

Mounting: simple and straight-forward. There should be a 3rd peg strap on the bottom to make attachment more flexible.

Use: mostly good. It can't be overstated how important it is on a long ride to be able to drink on the go, and the fact that I have an entire gallon means that I don't have to screw around with it at all, all day. I can still get drinks at gas stops, but if I only use the jug while moving a gallon is enough, even if I do 1100 miles in one day (as I did).

General conclusion: For me the real value in this thing is that you have a ready-made way to have a gallon of cold drink accessible throughout an all-day ride. What I mean is, the price might seem high for a cloth bag, 3' of hose and some straps, but it accomplishes the job much more effectively than any home-built solution I'd ever come up with would, and the utility of having the ability to drink on the move is invaluable.

Idea for improvement:

Instead of just sticking the hose into the spout, use a steel tube that fits into the spout and is cut to make it to the bottom while sticking out a couple of inches, with instructions to bend it for each individual installation such that the hose can stay straight. The hose on mine was quickly squished nearly flat by hanging out of the spout, making it more difficult to draw from.

I lost the bite valve early on day two of use. I'm not going to replace it, as the hose hangs in an upside down 'U' on the back of my tank bag, so as long as I blow the liquid back into the jug after drinking, no mess.

I'm not sure what else is available, but the $.30 name badge retractor thingy is not robust. Mine failed about 60 miles into my first ride with it. For a total of $80 surely there is a better alternative. I stopped at an Office Depot I happened to ride by and bought a better one for $2. Even still, this solution has room for improvement. The concept is sound I think; it just needs a more robust retractor piece.

The black cloth covering the hose needs to be attached to something, so that it doesn't slide up and cover the end of the hose.

IMO the strap system would work better if you could peel it all off of a velcro base and position it as desired, then strap it up.

Overall rating: I give the motojug a solid B+. It's a little spendy, and not perfect, but it does accomplish the task and provide a very important function. It's amazing how a couple of sips of cold drink while sitting in stopped traffic in 95f +humidity can change your whole outlook.

Re: MotoJug Hydration System (20% Discount)

Thanks for the review everyone. I really appreciate the feedback and people letting me know of areas of improvement. Guess we need to look at our retractor and either send a few spares or come up with something else. I've had a suggestion of putting on a Gear Keeper as a retractor but they alone are $15 and I don't personally think people will buy it at $90 for the system. I would like to add a quick disconnect to the system as I think they are invaluable but they come at a cost of $10 which also brings the cost of the system up also. We set our price to where my wife could make $20 per hour making this system. I think thats more than fair for her time. We actually at one point had a guy we know that does a bunch of business in China and had him take the bag over there and see what it would cost to recreate. He came back with a quote of $20 per system but with a minimum 1000 units. I don't have $20k to outsource this to bring the price way down. But I do know now why people take stuff and have it built over there. That's cheaper than we could do if for sure. So I guess we will just keep doing our 3-5 orders a week and keep after it. I don't ever expect this to be the next camelback but it's been really fun for my wife. She really enjoys sewing these and is very picky if it's not done perfect... Once again thanks for the reviews. My only advertising is word of mouth and these few forums that I have made this available on... Glad your enjoying them like I have..

I appreciate all the orders everyone. I will say I just had my first System retuned to me after a customer decided he could not make it work for him. (Tenere owner also). He didn't have a tank bag and didn't like hooking the tube to his jacket. I knew eventually I would get someone that didn't like it and want a refund. I tell you this to let you know I'm serious about the money back guarantee. Try it and if you don't like it I'll refund your money within 30 days minus return shipping charge no questions asked upon receiving the system back. Bummed it didn't work out for him but only having 1 return in over 200 sales is still pretty good.

As some have noticed we have removed the forum discount. Reason for this is because we just started including the Hydration Hose quick disconnect with all orders. We use to offer them to customers as an add on and 100% of our recent customers wanted them so we just decided to include this in the package. The quick disconnect is well worth it. It makes refills so much easier.
