If there's MotoGP down there, I'll be going for sure. I've seen it at Laguna and Indy and Austin is MUCH closer. Hope it happens.

Hard to believe that it could kick Laguna Seca to the curb. I'd almost rather have the excuse to ride out and stay in Carmel than have MotoGP here.

I figure Indy is more at risk, being closer to Texas than Laguna.

IL, the land of straight, flat, boring roads

I agree. Indy had very good attendance the first year, but not so much after that. In talking to Nicky Hayden's dad, Earl this year, he said that Indy needed 90,000 to break even. I don't know if that figure is 100% true, but this year they announced that they had a bit over 65,000. Add to that the fact that many riders don't like Indy due to there being at least 3 different types of surface and I believe that if one of the USA events is dropped, it will be Indy. I hate to hear that, as it is only 3 hours from where I live.

Article claims that Indy announced confirmation for 2013...but who knows if that really means anything.

I think that Indy is confirmed for 2013 and 2014, but there could be a release clause based on attendance. I've been to both Indy and Laguna and from my perspective Indy is a more enjoyable experience. I was in Laguna in 2006 when Nicky won, but the track was literally melting in front of our eyes. Laguna is very hilly and the ingress/egress leaves alot to be desired. I would go to Laguna with a group that wanted to camp on site, but that would be about the only way.

Yeah, Laguna has worked on getting folks in and out since the 80's and they still can't get it done very well. 2006 was crazy hot, nothing like it before or since. I went there in '88, '89, '05, '06 and '10. We rode a bus in 2010 and it worked pretty well. The Indy 500 is so huge that that MotoGP is a like a girl scout bake sale to Indianapolis.

I'd sure like to see a third MotoGP in the USA. With Spain's economy on the brink, maybe we'll finally get more rounds world wide than in Europe for MotoGP. What do we have now, 12 races in Europe and then 2 US, 1 Australia, 1 Japan, 1 Qatar, 1 Malaysia. I think 4 races are in Spain.

I think they are headed to Argentina next year as well. One of the Spanish rounds ( Catalunya or Aragon?) maybe dropping out. My wife and kids rode the bus from Fort Ord in 2006 and left right after the MotoGP race. I waited over 2 hours for them at Fort Ord and had a cop try to harass me for Loitering.
