Am I going crazy? Wait don't answer that....

I would have sworn that the 108a came with a vacuwrap seal over the screw on part to prevent dust etc when its sitting on the shelf. I think every oil filter I have bought in the past 5 years has had one on it. Do they come with that thin plastic protectant or am I crazy?

I just bought a 3 pack and none of them have it on, but the boxes were beat to crap and look like they have been kicking around a parts room for 2 years. The labels look suspicious to me as well. I'm almost sure I got fake ones off of amazon but thought I would check before sending back.

I believe, in my humble opinion, that the plastic film that the filters bring is not to protect them from dust. The filters that I have seen with this film come with a rubber seal, lubricated with some kind of grease. So I think the film is to prevent that grease from drying out or staining the packaging material

Isn't the 108 one of those that had the baseplate change so the newer ones leaked? The originals had a concave baseplate to clear the nut on the threaded shaft, then the baseplates became convex and stuck out enough to interfere with the nut as I remember.

I don't remember Mobil using the vacuwrap.

None of the M108/108a filters I ever used had a plastic film seal in the bottom. I’ve been using Mobil 1 filters on my previous ST1300 since around 2005 or so. They have all had a concave mounting surface. Recently however they started making the M108a a bit taller and they will no longer fit behind my RaveTech skid plate. Gonna have to find an alternative now.

Thank you guys. Like I said they looked like they had been kicking around a parts shelf for a few years. When there was no wrap I was concerned.

I just wish they were cartridge style like my Jeep. The filter drains downward, so when you take the cap off, and take the filter element out. . . . there's no mess.

Mobil 1 108 filters are pretty much what I've been using for the past six years, and never had one that had any sort of wrapping on them.
