I went back to work yesterday and it felt good , so the vacation must have been good for me . saw something on the road I thought was very interesting . had a KLR rider pass me on the highway . nothing extraordinary about a KLR passing you. except he only had one arm . no right arm . had to have some cool mods to the bike to do that . he was all geared up , I was amazed . if I could have followed him to a stop I would have had to interview him... he must really like to ride .

people are asking did I have fun.... I say define fun..... parts were not fun , parts were fun , overall I would say it wasn't about having fun , but doing something very hard , and surviving even if it took some help on parts..... there was new friendships made , memories to remember , and a "I did that " that most would not even try.... would I recommend it to some one , no.... not on these big bikes unless you have someone like mak10 with you....
I would not even consider riding some of the stuff you guys did on a Super Tenere. I would have my Beta for that. It's really good that you had an experienced ADV bike rider like Mak10 with you!!

I wanted to puke, and felt myself doing another rag doll when I saw the pictures of mak10 rolling smooth Deathwing tires on those trails!! Overall it looks like you had a lot of fun. And you made it back safe with no broken bones or bikes.

My hats off to both you guys for seeing what these huge beasts can do in the hands of an experienced rider!!

my budget for the trip was 600.00 plus a 100.00 emergency money . took an extra day coming home so had to dip into emergency funds , had 60.00 left when I got home . took wife out to steak house and spent 25.00 , the rest I piddled away doing what ever the rest of the weekend. so 2438 miles , food , lodging , gas (great gas mileage up high, at one point getting 57 mpg according the bike computer. ) etc.

It’s too bad you missed that last part, in the dark. It is beautiful and a bit spooky as well, maybe it was better it was dark. ;)

We might have to try it in reverse order next time.

got my parts in last night so I can repair the tenere …. new rear rotor ,as the rear needed replacing before I even made the trip , and a plastic part I broke in a sand crash.... then I can start riding again.

Here is a helpful tutorial. We did the Hurrah pass trail the day before white rim. Rock steps are everywhere

Thanks for posting that Mak10. It is really cool to see him doing that tutorial right where we stopped.

For those that were not there. The video isn't that far away where I had my incident where I needed two tire plugs and where I bashed my givi skidplate. I will try to post my skid plate photos soon.

There are a lot of other trails there. I found a couple of campgrounds in town that look good. I don’t think I would stay where we camped this trip again. Just be aware you want to visit Moab in the spring or fall. Too hot June-mid September.

the camp ground we stayed at was nice , it was the highway traffic noise , every large commercial truck in Utah went through Moab I think. and the sound was reflected off the large mesa across the highway right back at the camp ground. simply could not get adjusted to the noise.

Rear brake was not great before trip and toast after finishing WRT . Metal on metal. So to not do more damage I would tap rear brake to discontinue dual braking and would use only front brake til I got home.

34260 miles.... original rotor , 2 sets of pads I think... 1 original 1 replacement .... might have been 1 extra set , can't remember for sure. but now with a brand new rotor and pads.

original rotor went through 3 sets of pads in 34000 miles . I'm thinking this is correct after some pondering.
