Those first pictures are from the "Top of the world" correct? There is that tough hill afterwords and even tougher down hill. What are they named? How is the WR for that type of riding? I barelly did it last year on a DRZ.

Yes them first pictures are TOTW.
The next tuff uphill I didn't see any name for it on my maps.
The mean down hill was The Rose Garden.
The Wr250R is a nice bike for that stuff but a real dirt bike that is much lighter would be the best.

Good job Steve! Once again, you're making all of us wish we were there too. I've Jeeped a lot of Moab but never biked it. Still in awe of the place, and the places you go.

This looks like it will be a yearly update Ride Report.
This will be the 2017 update.
This year turned out to be a dad and son ride. My boy Eric and Dakota and his dad.
Dakotas dad "Steve" has never been on a ride with us, He's been holding out on us all these years.
We Parked the van at a camp and came back to it every night.
Here is a list of the trails we rode. In the order we would ride them.
Amasa Back Trail
Cliffhanger
Kane Creek Trail
Poison Spider
Golden Spike
Rusty Nail
Gold Bar Rim
Slick Rock
Hell's Revenge
Fin's and Things
Porcupine Rim

So I'll get started with the pictures.
Here is our camp.

The first trail we hit was Amasa Back.

It's tricky right off and Steve went over the bars and broke off his front fender within the first five minutes.

Cliffhanger

On Kane Creek we met a rider from Alberta named Garret and rode with him.

That was all of the first day.

Steve, you guys have all the fun! I am headed down to Utah this week but will be on the S10 so I will be staying on the seniors' trails. I have been thinking of adding a WR250R as a second bike. I assume you would endorse that choice. Any others you would consider? Cheers, David

Always enjoy your ride reports. Looks like amazing small bike territory.

Thanks guys for reading.

The WR250R is a nice bike for dual sport riding but in the Moab back country it's like taking a knife to a gun fight. In three days of trail riding my 250 was the only dual sport bike we see out on the tough trails. We seen lots of bikes but all the rest were real dirt bikes. I'll never take the WR out there again. I'll be on a real dirt bike.

Day three we went to the pay riding area.
First was Slick Rock single track.
It's real fun but not real challenging.
[Not Super Tenere stuff though]

Porcupine Rim was much more challenging.

Then it was back to camp.
We are camped at the base of these cliffs.

That evening we climbed up through a crack in the cliff to the top above camp.

Back down.

Then Saturday morning we drove the rig oven into Arches National Park to do some hiking.

The hike to Delicate Arch.

That's Eric under the arch.

At Double Arch I ran into Dwayne from Calf. It was fun talking to him.

Then the long drive back home.
Colorado was very snowy coming and going.

Thanks for reading.
I said last year that if the boys had any good picture that I would put them up.
That is still true for this year but since they still haven't showed me last years pictures I doubt that I'll get any this year.

Good catch, Mark. Yeah Trials tires are the cats ass for that kind of riding. (I'm speaking for Steve, LOL)

The trials tire is great on rock but Moab has a LOT of sand and it lacks in sand.

Thanks for reading.

Time really flies so here it is year three of riding in Moab with the boys.
None of us are on dual sport bikes anymore, they just are not the right weapon for the trails the boys want to ride.
All on dirt bikes now.
This year we met up and camped with three other guys that drove out from here in Iowa, they where staying longer and are actually still out there.

We set up camp first thing and got acquainted with two of the guys we had not met.

So it is my boy Eric, Dakota and I and Alex, Ben and Todd all extremely good riders that had not been to Moab on dirt bikes before. [It's not any fun being the oldest slowest and worst rider in the group but I'm too old to fix that now.] Dakota is missing in our group picture but I'll tell you about that later.

We stared out on a trail we had not been on before "Moab Rim Trail" it is tough right off the road. Nothing like breaking in quick!

Eric

My ride this year is an XC-W 150.

Ben

Alex

Todd on a 150 XC-W

Dakota

That afternoon when we got back to camp, they all wanted to go ride Cliff Hanger Trail, I was tired from no sleep driving through the night to get there that I stayed at camp.
A little while later Eric and Dakota came back and Dakota had crashed and the bike landed on his hand. Eric took him to the emergency room and he came back with 19 stitches.
So Dakota got in a lot of hiking for the rest of the trip, but no more riding.

Day two was a big ride up Pritchett Canyon to Behind the Rocks and back on Kane Creek Trail.
Pritchett Trail is the only #9 rated jeep trail in the Moab area. It's tough enough!

This is the EFI 2strock [Alex]

And back on Kane Creek

That evening we rode the Slick Rock area.

The next morning we moved over to the north side of the Colorado River and started off on Poison Spider Trail.
I was shot from the long ride yesterday so I bailed out and rode easy dual sport trails.

This stuff is all over the Moab area.

Dinosaur Tracks

I rode up Pucker Pass.

Then out to the end of Day Canyon.

That's all.
We came home through lower Colorado because of the blizzard on I70 and when we got home I just got stuff put away when it started snowing here.
Today.

That's for checking this out.
