Mirror extensions DIY

I made some inexpensive mirror extensions.

Here is what I used:

M10 coupler nut 1.25 thread
M10 bolt 1” long
M10 nut
Cut head off bolt, thread bolt in one end of coupler nut, thread nut on as lock nut, paint if desired, install on bike.

Done.

Where did you get the couplers? I found a lot of M10x1.5 but not seeing any or M10x1.25

I got them from a local hardware/fab shop. I see you can get them on eBay. I thought fastenal would have them but apparently not.

You can get them cheap, in stainless even, on ebay. But you have to wait a month or so for them to get here :/

Different way of getting the job done. Nice share. I guess it depends on what the parts cost you. If you can get them local and cheap, win. If you have to order them, you might as well spend the ~$20 for a pair of aluminum mirror extensions that come with the bolts.

After looking around, it seems like coupling nuts in this size are quite rare. I was lucky and found them local for cheap. The big box stores don’t stock these in my area.

On alternative is take a SAE coupler drill it out and tap it to the correct metric thread. I also realize not many have a tap and die kit.

If that’s the case it would be easier to order ready made ones.

I like making things myself if it’s in my skill level.

I understand. Retired machinist here. It comes down to what tools, skill set and comfort level you have, plus the desire.
