I would advise folks to consider getting an old school "mechanical key" cut to use to open the panniers and unlock the seat. I use the electronic key for the ignition only and the mechanical key for everything else to save a little wear and tear on the good key. The pannier locks on my 2018 ST were a bit stiff, but a little graphite and the mechanical key allows me to open the locks easier.

Now that is very good advice

Here's my 'mechanical' solution to the pannier locks. The wire pulls the latch , no need to use the locks at all. If I need to secure the lids just slide the wire in so the noose isn't visible and use the locks like normal.image.jpegimage.jpeg

Also, remember to push down on the lid; makes it MUCH easier for the lock to turn.

I use the same trick on the gas cap. I removed the flap, and have a short key pressed into a knob that lives there. Too short to work on the ignition, and my bags are not Yamaha, so the gas cap key would not work on anything else except perhaps the seat.

to the OP, nice idea. The US guys don't have to worry about it, we don't have chip keys at all. Or a factory security system...
