Hello

I am aiming at purchasing a newish Tenere. There seems to be many low mile 2013+ models available. Most of my previous bikes were dirt bikes and more recently a Vstrom 1000. Did all my own maintenance because dirt bikes are fairly simple and the Vstrom never had major issues. I did however replace the clutch basket and plates on my Vstrom and that's at the extreme of my mechanical abilities. Don't ever want to do anything like that myself again.

I want the Tenere because of the bike it is and also it's known reliability. But, I don't want to do the major service items beyond oil changes. So, when the time comes for the valve check/adjust, what shop or specific mechanic do my fellow Arizonans trust?

Apologies if this has been covered before - couldn't find it. Send me down the road to the link if it exists.

Thanks!

If you are in the Phoenix area, I had really good luck at Apache Motorcycles:

I would avoid Ride Now.

Any recommendations besides Apache? I don't read many happy endings about getting these bikes serviced. Maybe I'll just get a KLR and sacrifice comfort, power and modern technology for ease of maintenance. :-[

I would also recommend a 2014+ for the movements.
I know about the changes from 2013 vs 2014 and the only disappointing thing I'd long for is cruise control. However, are there significant known reliability issues between the years?

Price for 2013 vs 2014 is a significant difference. That is an important consideration.

I have yet to get to my first valve check (I just don't ride as much as I used to!), and the only time my bike has been back to a dealer was to have the gas tank O-ring recall done (not that it really needed it). That being said, I didn't find anyone I would trust to check the valves, so was contemplating a ride out to Jaxon in Fort Wort.

I had my valve adjust and 2014 clutch basket and cam chain tensioner done by Dillon at Zen Motto in Scottsdale. He is a class A mechanic. He mostly works on KTMs cause let's face it they need the most work :)) But he has done several Tenere's that I know, of and is very familiar with them.

He also owned one so is VERY familiar with the Tenere. Good shop regardless...

If Mark Ledesma is still over at GoAz he is one of the best mechanics around...

Stay as far away as possible from any Ride Now...or any motorcycle shop that ends with "Sports" (also owned by Ride Now)

I too have heard great things about Zen Moto. Glad to know they have Tenere expertise. Not that my bike is going to need it any time soon...right? :))
