Having had to cancel my visit to MCT 4 times due to illness, it looks like I’ll eventually actually make it this time. Booked for the beginning of next month. MCT service usually involves re valving and shimming, new springs and re oiling along with seals etc. (At least that’s what he did to my zx14r) It transformed the Zx14r and I’m excited to see what a difference it’ll make to the S10.

I finally got to ring MCT to book a ride in suspension tune and setup only to be told by Darren that he’s stopping doing ride in service. He now only accepts shocks and forks delivered to him and won’t work on bikes! It’s my own fault for cancelling so many times over the past two years due to illness. But it got me thinking that the money I was going to spend on the tuning of the oem suspension would go a long way towards the price of a new Nitron shock. So I’ve ordered one from Darren and am awaiting delivery (R1 with remote preload). The new shock will come already setup for my use and I’ll just have to fit it. I’ll combine fitting the shock with regreasing the swing arm bearings. Then In the summer when the S10 comes off the road I’ll send the forks to Darren and get them tuned too. I’m looking for ultimate road comfort for high command so I might end up getting the seat reworked as well. Anyone in here using a nitron shock?

I was going to buy a nitron when i was going to do mine but when i looked with build and preload adjuster and spring i needed they were firtually same price as ohlins so i bought ohlins with a 170 spring pleased as punch, but the nitron is a good shock

To be fair, I didn’t even ask how much the ohlins would be. I just assumed it would be too much! The Nitron with remote preload is £800 and is what Darren advised for me for road comfort.

Chased Darren for my Nitron again today. Still hasn’t arrived. That’s nearly two months now. So I asked what the difference would be if I changed to ohlins or Wilber. Apparently ohlins delivery is now June and none of the manufacturers have any stock on the shelf. They literally are building them and sending them straight out. It hasn’t helped that Nitron are re locating.

Wow! It seems that in U.K. it is becoming increasingly difficult to source many things that we used to take for granted just a couple of years ago.

So having ordered my nitron on 8th December, I got a call today saying it would be delivered tomorrow! So stage 1 of my suspension upgrade can start. Stage 2 will involve me taking the forks to MCT for service and upgrade next month.

The shop has fitted the Nitron shock and washed the bike for me while I lounge about in my hospital bed. I’m keen that by the time I’m out of here my bikes will be ready for this year’s adventures. 6 weeks in pokey is enough to lose your mind to boredom so planning adventure is what I’ve been doing. Next, the shop will remove the forks and send them to MCT for upgrade. Turns out the shop mechanic has just done the KTech course and bought all the equipment. I felt a bit guilty asking him to send them to MCT!!I’ll give him a try next time though

Had a call from MCT yesterday. He’s finished the forks and posted them back to my local shop. He said they were in quite a state (17k miles).
Fitted new linear springs, revalved, different oil and air gap and new seals and bushes fitted. Can’t wait to get out of Pokey and ride the thing!!

Yeah this is the second bike with that kind of mileage on where the service has revealed shocking level of muck inside. Not convinced oem oil is the best. Looks like dirty dishwater when it’s drained

Got my bike back from the shop the other day complete with Nitron shock and MCT reworked forked. Can’t ride it yet but immediately notice a huge difference just sitting on it. The forks now protrude out of the top of the yoke by 5mm (as instructed by MCT) so I’ll be interested to see what effect that has too.

I raised my forks a little more than that about 5 years and 30k miles ago. They’re still like that today. I prefer the difference it makes. It turns a tad quicker, but holds a line better. The latter was what I was mainly after.
