I had a filter set up that would change the word "Tenere" into "Ténéré", that was messing things up. I took it out.

By the way, welcome to the board!

Dear Yamaha: Please bring this bike to the USA - we need competitors for BMW and Suzuki, the the Tenere looks like a hands-down winner that I'd like to sign up for if & when given the chance. My local dealer knew nothing of the bike, unfortunately.

Right on. I really can't imagine they won't. The package they've come up with is a true competitor to the BMW GS, probably the only true competitor. Talk about an untapped market!

MCN's take on the SuperTen is a joke.. Those guys will pick the Ducati over any other bike every time. I thought the Multistrada 1200 would be my next bike until I tried it. Sure, it has a great motor but the overall package did not work for me and I don't need 150 hp. I need a smooth tractable engine and the Ducati as delivered from the factory surges and hesitates at city speed limit speeds, i.e. around 3000 rpm.

Here's to hoping that Yamaha sees fit to bring the SuperTenere to Canada next year. I will buy one 100%.

A lot of talk from people around me that if the SuperTen comes here, they will unload their GS's for it.

I did and am waiting. I thought of buying an FJR, but in the end, I just couldn't go back to a fully faired dedicated ST bike.. I like the flexibility of the big D-S bike, it's a touring bike when you need it to be and when the road turns rough or unpaved, the bike has the suspension and the tires to deal with it. So, I'm hoping and waiting to see it here next year. Rumor has it that Yamaha Canada will announce its decision to import it come Sept. 2010.

If Suzuki can sell boatloads of Stroms and they are not in the same league as this bike, and BMW best seller is the GS, despite its tarnished reputation for reliability, surely Yamaha can make a go of this bike in this market.

Hey Mingo, welcome to the site.

I really would like to take one for a ride. Yamaha in general makes some really nice bikes and their shaft drive should be very reliable. My previous bike had a shaft and as much as I love my Tiger I sure wouldn't miss the chain maintenance. It would be nice to have the off-roadability when needed.

MCNewsUK gave the Super Tenere a favorable review, but it fell short of beating the BMW 1200 GS, pointing to it's high price comparison as it's main obstacle, and I add that accessories are real expensive as well. The power, handling, and build quality are up to par for Yamaha. But one Nitpic: The windscreen is far too small for high-speed touring.

Not available for North America.
In one of the largest markets in the World, where BMW is breaking sales records with their F650GS, F800GS and the R1200GS, why is it that Yamaha does not want to sell the XT1200Z in the USA? And why must a buyer "jump-through-hoops" by making an advanced reservation to buy one? BMW doesn't, and they invite buyers to test ride them. I did the reservation/deposit aggravation for my FJR back in 2006, but I'm absolutely certain I will not get on bended knee and beg for a Super Tenere. Clue to Yamaha: Make it easier to buy, lower the price, offer incentives, get a new customer friendly marketing and sales manager for the USA.

Yamaha are definetly missing a trick by not selling this bike in the US. Here in the UK Yamaha have decided to allow dealers to have a limited number to sell direct in order to showcase the bike. I walked into the local dealership saw it and bought it .... just like that. If I'd been required to buy via the internet it just wouldn't have happened. I'll now take the machine to as many bike events as I can in order to spread the word ..... starting with the ACE Cafe Streetfighter show. I'm getting soooo excited about picking the bike up I can hardly contain myself. 8)

It is available and with discounts from the $13900 list. I am the 2nd in line at D & H Cycle at Cullman, AL at $11,999 ;D. I don't need another bike, but who can pass up a "blue light special" like that? ::)

$11,999 is a seriously great price for a brand new model. I was a bit worried about US pricing at first but where they have priced it is fantastic. It's a lot of machine for that kind of cash, especially when compared to the R1200GS.

I wonder what the dealers around here will be doing with pricing. I would never have expected less than MSRP right out of the gate, but it looks like there's some hope.
