MC Cruise issue

I just installed the MC Cruise this past weekend on my 2012 and the weather was warm enough to give it a test. The unit passed all the diagnostics in the garage, however when out on the road it kept disengaging after anywhere from 2-30 seconds. The speed wasn't to fast around 40PMH. I contacted MC Cruise and got a very quick response considering they are half way across the planet. They called me and ran through the diagnostics again and agreed all checks out. I even pulled my ECU again to see if a wire was loose but it all looked good. The code I was getting was 2 which indicates speed senor error.
He advised me to try it again this time setting it to at least 60MPH.

Anyone who have installed this on their S10 have any insight?

Thanks

If the cruise control disengage function is similar to a car one, you might be having a problem with one of the brake switches and is sending the signal of brakes being applied.

I had to replace my front brake switch three months ago because it was randomly flashing my brake lights. I only notice that while warming up the bike and going around doing a visual inspection of the bike.

I had an old car that would do that because the cruise control was designed to deactivate (or not activate at all) below 40mph. If you set it at 40-43 mph, any slowdown would cancel the cruise.

Try it at 55-60.

Thanks for the input...should work at 40mph according to the paperwork. It engages just keeps disengaging. I will be trying it at a higher speed.

The error code reads speed sensor problem but the speedo seems to be working fine. I hope to get it out today for another test...cold here 30Fs

If it still has issues I am going to try and systematically disabling any farkles I have that may be interfering.

UPDATE! A fellow S10 Rider on FB had the same issue. MC Cruise advised him to pull the #2 Yellow tack sensor wire out of the main harness plug. This worked! The CC works as it should ( with the exception of high tach cut off) The Clutch and brake disengage works as it should so I am okay with that one safety feature not working. I am going to get it touch with MC Cruise to cross check the fix but I think I am GTG.

Update to the Update....
MC Cruise contacted me:
"We seem to have identified a problem with the spark duration being too long on Yamahas causing the monitoring to trigger shutting down the cruise control thinking it has too fast a frequency - and are working on a fix. This will probably entail providing a replacement computer for you at our cost."

So they want me to ship my computer back and they will send me the "fixed" one"
The down side is it will tak about 6 weeks to get the unit back....upside I guess is I probably won't be riding before then anyway.

So just to keep updating for future reference. I sent the CC computer back to MC cruise. Followed their instruction to use USPS which I did. Asked for the cheapest method which cost about $39. Sent a photo of the receipt to MC Cruise and the guy kind freaked out at the cost. Insisting there was a cheaper method. I crossed checked with USPS website and it matched exactly to what I paid. About 10 days later tracking showed it was delivered. I waited a couple of days and emailed MC Cruise to ensure they received it and when I can expect a replacement computer. Radio silence. I felt this was odd because they always responded within 24 hours or so. Its been a week. I will email them again on Monday but I am getting a little concerned. This was expensive and it was shipped back at their request ( I was okay with the tac sensor not working). Time will tell where this goes and since I paid through Paypal I have recourse if things go horribly wrong. I am not anywhere near that point but felt I should share my experience for future purchasers. Worst case I could try calling them but that will be expensive.

$39 is a great price to ship that to Australia. Try shipping some crash bars! $180 for a 24 lb box that is 19x19x12.

Hopefully they are just waiting to have something to tell you about the replacement unit. I would send another enquiry simply asking them to confirm that they received your ECU, as you show it having been delivered.

Keep in mind that a lot is going on in Australia right now with heavy rains and recover from all the fires.

I'm trying to give the the benefit of the doubt because they have been very responsive in the past. I was a little taken back by the reaction to the shipping and at a minimum was unprofessional. The cost was easily verifiable by them. I even sent them the USPS link.

Like I said I am giving them the benefit of the doubt at this point. If they are upset with their loosing money on this sale then I am sorry. You need to stand by your product. If you don't want to deal with international shipping costs then don't sell internationally.

Their sticker shock may have come from the exchange rate. $39 US is $59 Aussie. It probably costs them a lot less to ship to the US than it costs us to ship to Aus. Just one of those 'going rate' postal service things combined with exchange rate issues.

Don't let it worry you. I have dealt with them in the past and they honestly do want customers to have a solid product and no issues and work hard to solve them. They fall short when they don't have a solution or are not ready to update their product to solve the issues you are experiencing. That's sort of a universal problem with any company though.

I hope you get your ECU back in the time frame they offered originally and all is good after that. My suggestion is to let it lie until the middle of March, then if you haven't heard anything from them, give them a call and see where things are at. They told you 6 weeks, so let them have that time and don't stress about it.

I am okay with it taking time to get it back. They said 6 weeks round trip...that's fine but just let me know what the status is. At some point they are suppose to reimburse my shipping which they haven't done either. I have a big trip planned for the end of April. I specifically bought this for that trip. If its not sorted by then, I'm gonna be pissed.

I'm not upset at this point just letting folks know the process so far.

Just to keep anyone who is interested updated. I heard from MC Cruise last night after emailing them again. They apologized for the delay and said they would get a replacement out today. I haven't asked about getting my return shipping refunded.

If your purchase was CC or PayPal, it would be easy to refund you based on the original purchase, if it hasn't been too long.

Yes there was something about refunds through paypal being expensive...
"We have a US bank account and can send monies online to your account. "

I am not sure what that means, refund to my bank account or paypal account. I'll ask when I get tracking on the computer. Don't want o rock the boat.

It has to do with the exchange rate. when you receive funds from a foreign currency, then refund back, it's unpleasant. BTDT. Depending on the bank, CC isn't always that bad, but many are just as bad. So what they are saying makes sense. Someone just has to make it happen from the US account, which probably means one specific person that has access to that account, Vs the general account people that do all the other stuff.

Okay another update: Bored yet, yeah I am...
New computer has been shipped ( have tracking)
and after some more emails arguing the the cost of my return shipping, they refunded the full shipping I paid to send the computer back ($39US).

So the last hurdle will be if the new computer works....if there is no change I am not sending it back again...

More on the refund if you are interested....

I told him, I shipped the way he requested (USPS) and if he could find it cheaper refund me the difference.
They tried to tell me they found DHL for $20 US. Well who the hell uses DHL in this country, I don't even know where I would go to drop it off. Never see DHL trucks around here....plus when I went to get a quote from the DHL website it showed $80. I told him all this and said just refund me whatever he felt was fair. I guess he saw it my way in the end.
