Have you tried the Nolan 100-5 Eric? Definitely more long oval the a Neotec 1.
Also, have you tried the Neotec 2? I’ve heard it also tends to be slightly more oval than the first generation.

I’m still breaking in a Nolan. Definitely better than the old Neotec.

I haven't found a Nolan 100-5 or Neotec 2 to try on yet. The older Euro spec Nolans fit me great, but the last few US spec Nolans did not fit me well.

Thanks for the heads up on the 100-5. I'll look for that.

I got my 100-5 from one of the Euro dealers. I’ve heard that helmets for the Asian market are different than US but wasn’t aware of Euro/US differences beyond DOT certification (or lack thereof).

I don't know about the current offerings, but in the past the Euro helmets I tried were more oval than the US helmets of the same model. I need to track down a Nolan retailer and see if the current US Nolan is still round. They gave me a classic Shoei hot spot on the forehead. I'm an oval head shape guy.

I've been pretty happy with my LS2 helmets for the past 10 years. Shoei Multitech before that. An Arai FF tossed in there too. I wasn't ready to just buy the current version of the modular I have, (Strobe), and the Metro is LOUD. Loud as in forget using comm with it. Wife had one very briefly. Good venting, good fit, just too loud.

So a lot of the modulars are 4 lbs or better. My current LS2 modular (FF386) is 3.5 lbs in a Large. Even some of the high end helmets are 4 lbs or more. I wasn't really excited to pay big bucks for a quiet, but heavy helmet.

So I wanted to double check the weight of the Valiant and went to the LS2 US website. Yep, 4 lbs. Wait... There is a new modular helmet listed that I haven't seen before. It's called the Vortex and is carbon fiber. Hmmm, 3 lbs 1 oz. It only comes in matte carbon finish. I prefer white for less heat from the sun, but this Vortex FF313 has flow thru venting now with exhaust vents in addition to the typical chin and top vents. Game changer. Still has the standard drop down sun visor, still has pin lock ready main visor. New quick release visor attachment, (an improvement over the removable parts that had to come off on each side to swap or clean visors). And it's $400. Screw it, ordered. I got it from Revzilla and should have it in a few days. I'll have to wait to get a second visor since only the dark smoke is in stock with Revzilla. I may look around for that, but at $30 it's not too painful. Thinking silver Iridium this time as a day visor and keep the clear for night and pin lock use. I'll move my Sena 20S Evo over from the old hemet.

LINK

I'll try to give a review once I've ridden with it for a bit to share the knowledge.

So here I sit, wearing the new Vortex helmet. LINK Bought from RevZilla for $399.98 plus tax.

Fat guy wearing helmet pics. Red is just the stickers on the visor and drop down sun visor.

Chin bar is close to the face. Closer than the FF386, but maybe about the same as the Valiant. If I push my chin out I can touch it against the chin bar. I'm no Jay Leno either. With the chin bar closed, I immediately noticed pressure on my jaw. Not a cheek pad issue. Not sure if this will fly or not. Not sure if there is room for a mic boom either. Snug for the mic for sure.

It has a different kind of material around the neck collar. Kind of a plastic wrinkled stretch band. I assume to keep as much wind noise out. Doesn't seem to bother me so far. At least it won't absorb water in the rain and seems to be a good seal around my neck.

The drop down sun visor is not as smooth as the old FF386. Slide lever for it is on the top left side of the helmet. Makes a springy clang when you put it down and a loud clack when you raise it. No big deal. Sun visor does have full coverage. Better than previous LS2s, and those were good.

Main visor has no solid notches for open positions. More like a soft notch. First one is about half open. Second one is full open. No just cracked sweet spot for a little extra venting in wet or cold conditions. Visor 'tab' that you would use to open/close the visor is dead on center of the visor. I'm used to it being to the side, but what ever. Noticed now that full closed has a distinct click. And is secure. Perhaps just open past that click will give some air flow? Perhaps fully closed will let less water in when riding in the rain?

Eyeglasses fit fine. No pressure on the temples. Long oval to mid oval fit seems ok so far. New helmet snug, but no hot spots so far after 20 minutes.

Chin bar flips open and closed fine. Seems to have a positive notch for open.

Chin strap uses the wide metal ratchet that all LS2 helmets seem to come with now instead of the narrower plastic ratchet my older FF386 helmets have that is more similar to the Schuberth strap.

60 minutes in. Not an worse than 40 minutes. Jaw pressure seems better and doesn't bother me now. But the hot spot irritation at the top center above my forehead is still there. Will see what it feels like tomorrow and see if I can decide what is new helmet fit Vs wrong fit for me.

I've decided to keep the helmet. Some use, a little planned/hoped for weight loss and if necessary, some spooning of the EPS. It fits all the other areas I'm looking for other than color, so hopefully it will work out.

I've been using the LS2 modular for about 9 mos. now. Size xxl, usually wear an xl. Don't have any qualms about it except maybe the weight, 4.3 lbs. Mostly ride with the chin bar up except when it is cold. On the road I can put the chin bar down and with cable and lock tie it to the bike which is nice.

LS2 modular helmets are very nicely designed. Aside from the weight, I really enjoy wearing it for the convenience. I've recently purchased the LS2 Infinity and the HJC i30 open face helmets. Thought they are much lighter since they're 'open' face helmets, the HJC i30 has annoying hight frequency vibration when the visor is in the up position. The LS2 shields are noticably thicker, eliminating the vibration. Most surprising part for me was that when the shields were in the down position on both HJC/LS2 open face helmets, they were as quiet as the LS2 modular with it's chin-bar down as well! Who knew!!!
