Lower or adjustable rider foot pegs for my '17 Super Tenere?

I am probably crazy, but don't you have the new foot pegs mounted on the wrong side of the bike.
Also looks like you left a carter pin out on the third pic up.
Had me worried there! Went and checked and they're definitely on the correct sides of bike. Also, I took that pic before installing cotter pin, but I did install. Appreciate the heads up though!

As you can see in their website pic, the longer edge of the peg is the trailing edge, as I have them installed. You can also see they used an aftermarket sidestand to design product, unfortunately.

Hi all, I find that (with bad knees), the ST riding position is a bit cramped. I've installed a Sargent seat in the "high" position already. Wondering if there are any who have experience with lower rider foot peg options that may help alleviate this? Thanks!
Pivot Pegz can be mounted in a way that lowers them.

There's also these.

Or you could get a higher seat if you have the inseam for it. A Seat Concepts is higher than a stock seat and as such in the high position will seat you even higher than your Sargent does. Or a Touratech high seat.

Thanks. The link you posted for the Knight Design pegs are the ones I installed. Will run with these for awhile and if need be may switch to a Seat Concepts seat.

I think I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these, will ask them if they updated the design of their pegs so they don't need to be grinded down to clear the side stand...

Sounds good...please report back after speaking with them on whether or not they redesigned them.
Here's their reply: "We do not advertise for the 2021 Model Year as there is known interference, as you mention below. Even if your Model Year shares the same OEM Part Number for the Mounting Bracket and Foot Rest, Yamaha made changes that created interference with the lowered foot peg. To date, we are not slated to re-design this Item Number."

I checked and from what I can see, sidestands are the same for 2010-2013 (steel) and 2014+ (aluminum)...what year was yours?

Mine is a 2017. Did your email come from Leah? Interesting they mention "known interference" on the '21, yet won't acknowledge that my 2017 has an issue with interference. Yep, mines the aluminum with "wing" on it. Others are more qualified to confirm that 2014+ are all the same, but I believe they are. This is frustrating and disappointing, especially since I really like the product, and they're literally only 40 miles up the road from me.

Yes that was her, I even linked them to this forum post. When they replied that I wrote them back with some photos. From what I can see it would only fit the 2010-13 without issues, as all pictures I found of the Super Tenere are identical around the sidestand.

2013, Gen1 with steel sidestand:

2014 already has the aluminum sidestand:

2016 looks identical:

2021, still looks identical:

If yours is a 2017 and there was a clearance issue, I suspect it will be the case for all 2014+. I'd be very curious to know if there's someone else on the forums that had a Gen2 on which they didn't have a clearance issue. I get that with the low volume produced of these bikes it can be hard to justify adjusting the design, but if it means they only fit on the 2010-2013, they might have more reasons to update the design, they are nicely built and look very high quality, but at that price, I don't want to have to grind them down. I do hope they find a solution, I think lowering the pegs on my Super Tenere would make the stock seat and handlebars feel much better at my 6'1".

Did she respond back after you sent her the above photos/explanation? It's very clear that their pegs were designed around the Gen 1 bike, yet they advertise for 2012-2020. Yes, they're very high quality and make the bike feel much better to me (I'm also 6'1"). I'm not sure the 15mm from the Motech pegs would make enough difference to be worthwhile for me.

They haven't responded yet. And yeah I wish the motech would lower the pegs more, though maybe by removing the rubber on them you'd get a total of -25mm...

One thing I should point out is that it's really not that big a deal to grind/file the left peg to fit, and I can't see how it would weaken the peg at all. Also, to see the area that has been ground, you have to virtually be at eye level with it, as the profile from the top down is unchanged; so there's not even much of a cosmetic issue. Frustrates me that they refuse to listen to those of us who actually have the bikes and have installed their product, but I do believe it's still the best solution on the market. Good luck!

I just got a nice email from Randall Knight. Basically what we were thinking...that they'd designed the peg around the Gen 1 and never updated it:

Hello,

I am the production manager at Knight Design. I was informed that you had sent an email back in September regarding a fitment issue with our pegs on your Yamaha Super Tenere. I apologize that we didn’t respond sooner, I was told we didn’t receive your first email. Typically, we respond the same day we receive it or within 1-2 days.

So, the pegs for this model were designed originally to fit the 2012 model. The kick stand on that model year( OEM part # 23P-27311-01-00) was the one shown in the photo, but the kick stand changed to the Aluminum wing stand (OEM # 2BS-27311-00-00) in 2014. Unfortunately, we were not aware of this until now, but it’s not uncommon for Yamaha to tweak something on a model that then causes interference with our pegs. We are continuously working on redesigns due to Yamahas fiddling around.

Since this is the first I’m hearing about this I have to assume that people either had the older models, a after market Side stand, or did some grinding much like yourself. I highly recommend to all our customers to not grind down their pegs or modify parts on their bike unless those parts are adjustable. Our pegs are made to fit and provide you comfort while riding. If there is a fitment issue, I encourage people to refer to our return policy and provide feed back so we can look into the reason why they don’t fit.

I will talk with the owner/designer about a possible new design or modification to the existing one. I’m sorry for the inconvenience and I appreciate the feedback. If you have any more questions, you can call our office Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Pacific coast time or email me here.

Thank you & enjoy the ride,

Randall Knight

Thanks for the update. That makes a lot of sense. If they update the design I will definitely be ordering a set!

I have a set of these on my DRZ400 they are fantastic quality and made the bike much more comfortable. Along with some taller bars makes 300 mile days on this small bike much more comfortable most of which are off road. I am 6foot 4. After getting off this bike then back on my superT maybe I need a set for her too.

Good to hear...As your bike is a Gen 2 w/aluminum side stand, may want to email Randall at Knight Design as well to encourage them to develop the proper pegs for the Gen 2 bikes. We need to let him know there's a market for them!

I asked if if they planned on updating the pegs when they could become available. I don't think I can wait a season to replace the stock ones.

It’s seems you can use the current ones if you are willing to “trim” a little off the side stand wing. Probably well worth the effort depending on your level of discomfort. In my opinion.

I'll wait and see how quickly they can update the design, but yeah, definitely another option.
